Xochiquetzal or Centeotl would present

would cut the umbilical cord, and
Mayahuel would suckle the child.

ChocolateThe cocoa bean was highly treasuredin the aztec empire. The cocoa bean
were used to make a very thick sour
hot chocolate. Since Aztec didn't have
sugar they used peppers, corn meal
and spices.

the wife would do some housework
(cleaning cooking etc.) and the children
are either in school or helping their
mother.

GovermentThe Aztec Empire was an example ofan empire that ruled by indirect means.
Like most European empires, it was
honestly very diverse, but unlike most
European empires, it was more of a
system of tribute than a single entire of
government.

complicated homes of the wealthy to
the homes of the poor. Of course, there
was the emperor's palace (actually, he
had more than one home) which covered
an extensive area.

causeways—raised roads across
water or wet ground—to connect the
island to the Incas.

Jewelry Aztec art was generally owned by theupper classes, and jewelry was no
exception It was very common for
emperors, for example, to wear
necklaces and earrings. Craftsmen
were no part-time amateurs. They
dedicated their lives to their craft.

Each altepetl was ruled by a supreme
leader and a supreme judge and
administrator. The tlatoani of the capital
city of Tenochtitlan served as the
Emperor of the Aztec empire.

Learning Aztec children were raised by their parents with concern that they learned
their authority and basic life skills.
The parents warned against gambling,
theft, gossip and drink. If children did
not behave, they were punished. One
type of punishment was to hold them
over a chili pepper fire where they had
to inhale the spicy smoke.
