Aotearoa
An island upon the everbreaking sea,
an outside country of the truest māori.
I am a one of the delightful country,
A land of joy, I am sure you will agree!
Wellington’s great buildings, staggering and grand,
Taranaki houses, stouthearted they stand,
The most deadly geysers of the north-island,
The Waikato river follows no command!
The government's Beehive standing proud and strong,
Te Papa museum never goes wrong,
Seagulls screech by the wide glass ocean year-long,
Aotearoa is where I belong!
Spirit In The Night
The moon hovered pale in the night,
And then came it in all its might,
Its teeth were a blinding pure white,
There came the Wolf into sight.
Its ears were standing proud and long,
Silver eyes worthy of a song,
Its arched back amazingly strong,
In this world it could not belong.
By the sofa I stood in shock,
Frozen solid just like a rock,
My confused brain in a knot,
To take this in it was a lot.
It played a minor on the harp,
It may have been a glum F-sharp,
To listen to it broke my heart,
It felt like it was torn apart.
At me it gazed its enchanting eyes,
Its coat like joy under starry skies,
To stroke it would be the greatest prize,
So I touched the fur of All-wise.
And though it went and never came,
My life would never feel the same,
For I had the power to tame,
The Great White Wolf Of Silver Flame.
Voyagers
Polynesia far behind,
They're wondering what they'll find,
Their Wakas perfectly aligned,
Those lovely ships so well designed.
Wakas are full with tasty food,
Kūmara pleasing sweet when chewed,
Savoured yams to lighten the mood
Delicate shellfish to conclude.
They are heading out to sea,
Their ships in total are three,
They're wondering what they'll see,
From their troubles they are free.
With a cargo of fair crowns,
And delightfully bright gowns,
The pirate ships full of sounds,
Some equipment to raid towns.
France distant and out of sight,
Coming back from a cruel fight,
They will reach Rome in this night,
Or it may be when it’s light.
Weapons still damaged from war,
A bit of food from their store,
Best equipment to explore,
That is what Romans adore.
