Once upon a time, there were three kittens eager to read and a dog ready to teach them.

The first kitten, Monkey, struggled with accuracy and automaticity or struggled to read words correctly and effortlessly.

Th..e c..a..r, I mean c..a..t, r..a...n.
Monkey, I love that you are trying so hard, but we need to practice your accuracy and automaticity. Let's practice reading some sight words and practice decoding.

The second kitten, Kiwi, struggled with tempo and prosody; she read too slowly and without expression.
The. Cat. Ran. Very. Fast. And. Tripped. Over. A. Rock.
Kiwi, you have great accuracy but could benefit from reading faster and with the correct expression. Let's practice choral reading, where we read together so you can listen to how I read with expression and the proper speed.

The last kitten, Shadow, struggled with comprehension or understanding what she read in the book.

The husky had a great idea. "Since Shadow is having difficulty with comprehension, what if we all do a reader's theater with all three kittens? The repeated readings of the story will help improve everyone's tempo, accuracy, prosody, and comprehension! Plus, it will be so fun!"

In the end, the three kittens practiced their newly mastered skills during a reader's theater in front of the rest of their friends.
