The plant has four parts: First is the 

root that absorbs the water and 

minerals the plant needs to 

grow.Then the   Stem, it takes the 

food and nutrients from the root to 

the leaves and other parts of the 

plant. The leaves job is to absorb 

sunlight so the plant can make their 

own food.Then we have the flower it 

makes seeds so the plant can 

reproduce.

Aa   About Plants

Many flowers need bees for 

pollination. Pollination is the 

transfer of pollen from one plant 

to the other. It is the first step to 

make a seed.

Cc      Cactus Plant

Cactus plants do not grow close together. By  

spreading out they can collect the water and 

minerals they need to survive. The cactus plant 

stores water in its thick leaves and stems. 

Some cactus have fruit. The cactus uses its 

thorns to protect itself from wild animals so 

they don't have access to the water it has 

inside its stem.

Dd   Durian fruit

Durian is a very large spiky fruit that 

grows in Southeast Asia. The fruit 

smells like rotting fish but its flesh is 

good to eat.

A plant that is being destroyed 

by people and changes in the 

weather.

Ff    Flower fun facts

Flowering plants that eat bugs and small 

animals are carnivorous flowers one is the 

Venus fly trap. The pitcher plant is a flower 

in the shape of a pitcher. It has a liquid that 

insects and frogs are attracted to. When the 

insects get close they drown in the liquid. 

Some flowers make poisonous material that 

kills other flowers for example the 

sunflower.

A seed has everything it needs 

to grow into a plant. For a seed 

to grow it needs three things: 

Warmth,moisture and oxygen. 

First the seed splits and forms a 

root. As the root grows the stem 

starts to come out of the 

ground. The stem   continue to 

grow and the first leaves come 

out. The plant develops into a 

flower.

 Hh     Habitat loss

A habitat is a plants home,people have cut 

down about half of the rain forest that covered 

the earth. Many habitats have been cut into 

sections by people who have made roads 

where there once were large habitats.Pollution 

continues to destroy habitats and wild fires 

that go out of control.

Ii    Iris flower

There are 300 species or types of iris 

flowers. They are garden plants. They 

come in many colors. Its is native to the 

north part of the world. Some irises 

grow in the desert ,some in the swamp 

and other in the cold far north.

Jj    Jojoba plant

Jojoba is a plant used many 

years ago by U.S. Native 

American's to heal cuts.It is 

used today in paint and 

cleaning supplies,rubber and  

glue and it could also be found 

in clothing.

Kk   Knowlton's Cactus

They are being collected by 

people who are selling them in 

floral shops. The tiny cacti are 

very hard to grow out of their 

habitats because they need very 

dry soil.Knowlton's cactus is an 

endangered plant.

Ll     Leaves

Leaves make most of the plants 

food. Leaves have different sizes 

and shapes. Leaves are arranged 

in patterns on a plant.

Mm   Mangroves

Mangroves are one of Florida's 

native plants. They grown along 

side the coastal line. 

Mangroves are a tropical species 

they are sensitive to extreme 

temperatures.Many animals find a 

home in its roots and branches.

Nn    Nectar

A sugary liquid taken from the 

flowers by the bees is nectar. 

Nectar is made in the part of 

the flower named nectarines.

Oo     Oak tree

Oak trees are endangered because 

of their habitat destruction. There 

are 600 different types of oak trees. 

They can survive in many different 

climate. They are most likely to get 

fungal disease inside the plant that 

cause them to rot.

Pp    Photosynthesis

Plants make their own food by using 

sunlight, water and carbon dioxide. 

In photosynthesis plants use 

sunlight to mix with

carbon dioxide and

water. It makes food 

sugar for the plant.
