DEAR DIARY

Hi! I am Christine. Today, I have been to my graduation ceremony. Something happened there that made me come home and find my diary. Sally's speech was so moving!!! It made me go back and remember how we met.
Dear Diary,
Today at school, my teacher talked about children's rights. She explained that many children's needs cannot be met for various reasons and that they are deprived of many things. She also said that everyone has a duty to ensure that children achieve their rights, and that we need to be sensitive. These thoughts were locked in my mind... and I was walking with these thoughts to my house...
Dear Diary,
Something strange happened to me today.
While I was coming home from school, I met a little girl sitting on a bench.
I tried to talk to her, asking her some questions, but she kept quiet.

Are you OK?
Do you go to school?
Later, when she was more at ease...........

I have never gone to school...
My mum is sick.
Would you like to come with me? You really have nothing to be afraid of.
I felt sorry and suggested...

I reached out to her and offered her my gloves.

Thank you!

I came back home alone and remembered the album we had made with my classmates in school three days ago. It was about the children's rights.

All children have the right to a safe place to live.

All children have the right to friendship!
..so I would love to be your friend!
The next day I went back hoping I see her again... She was there!

I told her my name and gave her my hand...

Every child has the
right to rest, relax,
play and to take
part in cultural
and creative activities.

As I held her hand I remembered again the album we had made with my classmates...

I was so sad. I thought this little girl had never had the chance to play, to laugh out loud, to feel part of a team, let alone the obvious for us, to feel safe. She had to grow before she could even grow taller!

As these thoughts went through my mind, I decided to talk to my mom about my new friend. So, I greeted her and promised that we would see her very soon.
I have to leave now! But I promise I will see you very soon!
The little girl smiled at me and greeted me. She still looked sad.

Mum, today I met this little girl sitting alone on a bench. I tried to talk to her but she was a bit shy. When she decided to talk to me she said that her mum is sick and that she had never gone to school.

Was that little girl alone on the bench? And...had she never gone to school? That's not right! All the kids should go to school! It' s a very important children's right!
We learned this at school. How can we help this girl?

Tomorrow when I pick you up from school, do you want to go with me to talk to the little girl and take us to her mom?

I would like to because she seems like a very nice girl and I want to help her.

All right, let's go talk to her.

Mom look, this is the little girl I was telling you about!

Hello, little girl! What's your name?

My name is Sally.

Where is your mum, sweetie?

My mum is at home, very sick and there's no one to walk me to school every day. I feel cold and I think I have a fever!

Oh, that's so sad. Can you show me where your home is?

Yes, of course!
