To My mom and dad

Grant, is a 2 year old, cheerful dairy cow. He has always thrived at his farm, enjoying time with his family and his friends. Grant has always appreciated what he has, until he saw this...

Grant noticed Wesley for the first time, his next door neighbor. He was astounded by the big barn, the shining sun, the heaps of hay, and the jolly farmer, with Wesley in the middle of all of this green grass. Grant was puzzled, why is is that if they live on the same farm, Wesley has all these great things? Does Grant not deserve the same?

Grant looked around his field, feeling disappointed. Well why is my grass filled with weeds and puddles, he wondered. "Am I doing something wrong?" he thought to himself.

Over at Wesley's field, the sun continued to shine, as bright as can be. Wesley however, was not feeling the warmth.

Over at Wesley's field, he looks around. The barn was rusty, the grass was overgrown, and the hay was stale. Wesley frowns, wishing he could do something about it. If he just had someone to talk to.

Feeling disappointed, Grant began to look for his mother. When he finally finds her, she notices that Grant is feeling down. "What's wrong?" says Betsy, Grant's biggest supporter and mother. "Yeah what's wrong?" says his little sister, Martha.

Wesley looks over longingly at Grant's field. He wishes that he had what Grant has, unconditional love and support.

"I don't know how to word it." Grant says, looking down. Betsy frowns, she just wants to help. "It doesn't matter how you word it" Betsy says, "It just matters that you communicate your feelings and allow us to help, no matter how little or how much." Grant looks up, his heart felt like it was floating from the support of his family. "Thank you guys, I really appreciate your support" he voices. Grant now feels confident enough to express his feelings. "Well I don't want to sound unappreciative, but I keep comparing myself to Wesley, I'm jealous." said Grant, looking back down.

"I had no idea you felt like that" said Betsy, "But I completely understand where you are coming from, and I appreciate that you told me how you feel." Grant smiled saying, "Thank you so much, do you have any advice?" Betsy took a moment to think, being careful with her words. "The grass is not greener on the other side, comparing yourself, and your life to others, will not improve you or your life."

Grant stopped to think. He thought about everything he already has; his mom and little sister, his cozy barn, his weed-filled grass, the sun that occasionally shines, the clouds that bring shade, and finally, his little humps of hay that fill his stomach up just right.

Thank you!
Grant began to appreciate everything he has, and everything in front of him. He smiles, realizing that his life is incomparable to other lives. He knows he can be happy with his life, no matter how different or better another life seems. By just recognizing that he has everything he needs right now, and everything he could want. "Thank you guys for everything" Grant says.
