As I sat in that dark and cold doctors office, my mind was racing. I was 

so scared. My thoughts were soon cut off by an unfamiliar voice. 

“Sophie Ashwood?” It was the doctors assistant. 

“Yes?” I mumbled. 

“The doctor will see you now. Follow me back. How are you doing today, 

Sophie?”

“I’m nervous… I feel like my future is over.” I said looking around the 

room. There was cartoon elephant and giraffe wallpaper lining the top of 

the ceiling. 

“You can’t think like that. Everything will turn out fine. Can I get you 

anything? Water or tea?”

“A water please.” I responded. I knew water wouldn’t help me, but I 

thought I’d give it a try.     

“Okay. I’ll be back in a few minutes. The doctor will be in any minute. 

Just breathe. You’re going to be okay”

“Thank you.”

Knock, knock, knock-

“Sophie? Can I come in?” It was the doctor

“Yes.” I said shakily 

“Hi, Sophie. My name is Dr. Simmons. How are you feeling?”

“Uhm. I’m uh—“

    -Knock, knock-

“Hey Sophie - Here’s your water.”

“Thank you so much.” 

“You were saying how you were doing.” Doctor Simmons 

reminded. 

“Yeah. Um. I’m” *Sigh* “Scared.”

“I can understand that. You’re young. So my assistant had 

you take the urine sample before you came back here, 

correct?”

“Yes ma’am.”

“Great. Well you sit tight. I’ll be back in a few minutes with 

your results.”

“Okay. Thank you.”

-Ring, ring, ring, ring-

“Hey babe.” Jake, my boyfriend of 2 years, said.

“Hey Jake, what’s up?’

“Nothing. Hey, where are you? I want to see you.”

“I’m uhh… I’m at the doctor.”

“Why? Whats wrong? Are you okay?” He quickly said with   a 

worrisome tone 

“I guess. I can’t do this alone. Can you come over here?” I pleaded.

“Yeah, babe, of course. Where are you?”

“Uh… The OBGYN…”

“…uh…okay. I’ll uh… be there in a minute.”

“Okay. Thank you honey. Love you bye.”

    -Knock, knock-

“Sophie? I have your results here.” Doctor Simmons said as she 

entered the room.

“Okay. Can you wait a minute? I called my boyfriend, Jake. He’ll be 

here soon. I hope that’s okay. I just can’t do this on my own.”

“Of course Ms. Ashwood. Not a problem at all.”

    -Knock, knock-

“Soph? You in there?” Jake asked shakily. 

“Yeah. Thanks for coming. I love you.”

“So. Dr. Simmons. Am I, Uh —“

“Pregnant? Yes.”

-Crying-

“Sophie, babe? We’re going to get through this, okay? I love you. We 

will be okay.”

“So what do Jake and I need to do next?”

“Well we need to do an ultrasound but with you being teens, I’d like 

it if your parents were here.” 

“Um. They don’t know we’re here.”

“That’s okay. I’ll give them a call and tell them to be here ASAP. I’ll 

come back when they are here.”

“Okay.”

    -Knock, knock.

“Sophie? What are you doing here? You’re not… are you?” 

“Pregnant? Yeah… I am.“
