Chapter 1: The Educational System of the University of Liberia
Chapter 2: The Educational System of the United States
Chapter 3: Comparison of the Educational Systems

Structure of the University
The University of Liberia (UL) is the largest and oldest public university in Liberia. It was founded in 1862 and today offers a wide range of educational programs. The university consists of several colleges, including the College of Education, the College of Social Sciences, the College of Science and Technology, and others. UL offers undergraduate and graduate programs that focus on preparing professionals
for various sectors of Liberia's economy and social services.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to UL, students must pass entrance exams and have a high school diploma obtained either in Liberia or abroad. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams are the main standard for admission. After that, applicants must pass an interview or additional testing depending on the program they are applying for.
Curriculum
The curriculum at UL is primarily focused on training professionals in the fields of humanities, social sciences, health, law, and education. The programs include both theoretical courses and practical training, preparing students for real-world professional careers.
Teaching Methods
The main teaching method at UL is lecture-based, with limited use of modern technologies. Students often learn material independently, with minimal interaction with professors. However, the university is gradually implementing new teaching methods and aims to improve the quality of education.
Assessment and Evaluation
Students at UL are assessed based on exams, written projects, and, for graduate programs, theses. Final exams play a significant role in determining students' success throughout the academic year.
Education Structure
There are over 4,000 institutions in the U.S., including public and private universities, liberal arts colleges, and community colleges. The system is flexible and allows students to change their major.
Admission Requirements
To apply, students must take the SAT or ACT, submit essays, recommendations, and TOEFL scores for international students.
Curriculum and Teaching Methods
Students spend the first two years taking liberal arts courses, then choose a specialization. U.S. universities use modern technologies, online courses, and group projects.
