My mom woke me up by licking my face. That's
right, she licked it. Because she's a wolf, that's
what they do, right? This is the story about how
wolves raised a human girl.

It was a cold, windy day. My pack was out
hunting. Their paws crunched in the snow with
every step. They heard a noise! They tried to
make out what it was by smelling it, but they had
never smelled anything like it! Then they saw a
big, fierce, tiger! Without looking what the
mysterious scent was, the wolves pounced to
fight, and protect whatever the thing was. My dad
leaped on his hind legs and the rebel's paws
touched. After such a startle, the tiger pounced
away leaving whatever the thing was behind.

Finally, they bent over to discover a human man!
The man was carrying a basket with both hands.
He looked sick and pale. He looked at my father
and said "As a token of my appreciation," he
went on with an old, and scratchy voice. "I am
giving you my daughter. The great spirit of the
wolf will surely protect her!" He set the basket
down, and fell on the cold snow. The wolves
recognized the man as a member of the Native
American tribe near by. Inside the basket lay a
beautiful baby girl.

For a second, the wolves didn't know what
to do, then my mom said softly, but
proudly "I'll take care of her with my
husband!" "OK, great! Fine with me!" said
my dad, as if she should have asked him
first. They took the girl back to the cave for
dinner.

In the basket they found lovely red berries!
They ate the berries with delight, snuggled around
the baby to keep it warm. The night was long and
cold, but they managed.

In the morning, they awoke to a nice shining
sun. When they went outside of the cave, a big
crowd of Native Americans was gathering
around. Each person holding a different basket.
Were they bringing more children? The people
were now in a line. Then, the first person in line
stepped forward and said "We bring the child
food and clothes." Then handed the wolves a
basket full of little shoes and socks. The next
one had more berries and fruit. They kept on
giving until she had enough to live 20 years!
