In this picture a group of 8 students and 3 teachers from Makrochori High School, Greece visiting Istituto Comprensivo Bolzano 6, Italy in February 2025, are celebrating the 20. anniversary of eTwinning and decorating the main hall together.  Besides getting to know each other in person, we enjoyed working on this book, the texts, the voices, the illustrations and bookmark logo. It was an unforgettable week for all of us.

Once upon a time there was a piece of wood. 

This is the story of Pinocchio.

Well not really... this is our story: 
this is  Pinocchio Remix. 

Mr. Cherry is a carpenter. 

He has got a very red nose like a cherry. 

He is working a piece of wood. 

He hears a voice: 

“No, no please stop. Don’t hurt me !!".

The piece of wood can speak! 

Mr. Cherry is scared: ”Who is it ?“ 

Pinocchio: “It’s me. Please stop! ”

Mr. Geppetto has got short grey hair, a long nose, big ears, green eyes. 

He is not happy, He is sad. He is lonely.

He is wearing a yellow and orange T-shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes. 

Geppetto knocks at the door of Mr. Cherry: “Knock knock !”

Mr, Cherry: “ Who is it ? “

Geppetto “ It’ s me Geppetto.”

Mr. Cherry: “Come in “

Geppetto:”Good morning Mr. Cherry how are you ? I am lonely. Can I have some wood to make a puppet please ? “ 

Mr. Cherry “ Good morning Geppetto, of course here you are.”

Geppetto: ”Thank you. See you tomorrow”

Mr. Cherry: “Good bye Geppetto.“  

Geppetto goes home. His workshop is in South Tyrol. Geppetto is carving a wooden puppet, while the warm light of a fire illuminates the room.

Geppetto sighs "If only I had someone to keep me company in this cold mountain air, perhaps this puppet... Pinocchio..could be that someone." 

He is working the piece of wood: he is making a puppet with two eyes, two ears, two legs, arms, hands, feet. 

What can Pinocchio do ? He can speak, jump, kick, run. 

And so he does: he runs away.

Geppetto: “Help help, stop Pinocchio ! Catch him please“

The police catch Pinocchio and put him in prison.

Pinocchio is lonely, angry, hungry, thirsty.  

Geppetto is standing outside the prison.

Pinocchio is in prison and meets the fox and the cat. 

They want to escape from prison.  

Geppetto goes to prison to rescue Pinocchio but he can’t find him.

Geppetto: “ Police police, where is Pinocchio ?? “ 

Police: “The fox and the cat have kidnapped him "

Geppetto: “ Oh no, please save my Pinocchio !“. 

Police look for Pinocchio all around Bolzano, the Dolomites, rivers and lakes. 

They ask Fairy Ondina, who lives near Carezza lake in the Dolomites, if she has seen Pinocchio. 

She helps the police find Pinocchio in the woods and arrest the fox and the cat.  

Pinocchio says: “Thank you,  you have saved me !”

The fairy

CHARACTERS: Pinocchio, the Fairy Ondina who lives at Carezza lake and has a magic voice

PROBLEM: Pinocchio is sick

FEELINGS: happy 

SOLUTION: the blue fairy helps Pinocchio

Pinocchio, after the kidnap, is sick and asks for help: 

“Fairy Ondina can you help me please ? I've got a cold” and he sneezes. Ondina helps him getting better with a magic pill. Pinocchio is happy.

The day after, Ondina is sick, she has a sore throat and can’t sing. Pinocchio helps her with a magic drink, a Blondine. Pinocchio and Ondina are happy. 
Pinocchio says: ”Thanks, Fairy Ondina”.

The fairy says: “Thanks, Danke dir, I am ok now. Ich bin schon wieder sehr gut und hungrig”. 

The fox and the cat

CHARACTERS: fairy Ondina, Pinocchio, the fox and the cat 

PROBLEM: Pinocchio e Ondina are hungry and stop for lunch in a farm  where they meet the fox and the cat who steal their money 

FEELINGS: confused, angry, hungry, sad, scared, happy

SOLUTION: Ondina catches the fox and the cat and gives the money back to Pinocchio 

SETTING: in a farm in the wood of Carezza, Bolzano South Tyrol

Pinocchio and Ondina fairy are really happy.

The fairy is singing.  

They go for a walk in the woods to see the rainbow over the lake of Carezza. 

They get to a little mountain hut and as they are very hungry, they decide to have lunch.

“Guten Morgen, möchten sie was essen ?” asks the cat.

“What did you just say ? I can’t understand you”  Pinocchio is confused.

Ondina the fairy explains: “ Pinocchio you are now in South Tyrol and here we speak German.”

The fox offers to help: ” I can help you! Would you like to order? Wiener Schnitzel, Kamin Wurz, Knodel, Sauerkraut ...
just give me the money and I can take the food for you”. 
But the fox disappears with the money. 

Pinocchio is angry. 

Ondina the fairy once again helps him, she flies and catches the robbers and brings back the stolen money.

The ghost 

Characters: Pincopallino, Geppetto, the ghost and  Pinocchio

Problem: the ghost can't stand the sunlight, so he is sad

Feelings: sad,surprised

Solution: Pinocchio gives the ghost an umbrella to shadehimself from the sunlight

Pinocchio is back home with Geppetto in the Pincopallinis’ land.   One day Geppetto goes downstairs and -surprise !- he finds a sad ghost. 

“Oh gosh a ghost !” says Geppetto.

“Oh damn a man !” says the ghost.

“What’s wrong with you ghost ? Why are you sad?” asks Geppetto. 

“I want to go out and explore the world and the 7 seas but the sunlight can kill me” answers the ghost.  Pinocchio comes up with a brilliant idea: 

“Take this umbrella ! You can go out now. You can shade yourself from the sunlight. Don’t forget your umbrella”. !

The arcoBALENA

CHARACTERS: Geppetto, Pinocchio, Arcobalena, Fairy Ondina

PROBLEM: Geppetto e Pinocchio end up in the mouth of the arcobalena.

FEELINGS: sad, scared

SOLUTION: the dinosaur and Pinocchio scream and scare the arcobalena

Pinocchio and the ghost with his umbrella leave Pincopallinis’ land and explore the woods of Carezza near Bolzano. 

Suddenly, the sun comes out and a magic rainbow appears. But it is a monster: an  arcobalenA ! A rainbow whale.  The sad ghost evaporates. Geppetto is trapped in the arcobalenA. 
Geppetto: “Help help. let me out!!!” 

Pinocchio asks the arcobalenA: “What did you do ? Where is Geppetto?” 

The arcobalenA answers: ”I have eaten him: yummy yummy in my tummy!  And now it´s your turn”. 
The arcobalenA eats Pinocchio too. 

The dinosaur

Characters: Pinocchio, Geppetto dinosaur, arcobalenA

Problem: the dinosaur frees Pinocchio because he wants to use him as a toothpick

Feelings: sad, scared, surprised

Solution: Pinocchio escapes from the arcobalena and the dinosaur

Geppetto e Pinocchio are trapped inside the arcobalenA. 

In the wood there is also a hungry dinosaur that eats wood. It’s a special herbivor: a wood-eater. The dinosaur wants to use Pinocchio as a toothpick. 

He touches the ArcobalenA to catch Pinocchio and the arcobalenA magically disappears. Pinocchio is next to fairy Ondina again.

Pinocchio plays with Ondina's magic wand and suddenly they are transported from Carezza woods to Walther Square in Bolzano. Pinocchio is surprised and confused to see the dinosaur again.  
P.: “Oh no ! Why is the dinosaur in Walther Square ?” 

Dino: “I'm coming for you, Pinocchio!”.  

P.: “Why me, why always me?”. 

Dino: “I want you, you are my toothpick !” 
P.: “But why why?”. 

Dino: “Oh too many questions Pinocchio. You are made of wood. You aren’t a real boy. So you are my toothpick!”.  
P: ”No no ! I want to be a real boy!” he kicks the dinosaur and sends him to Deutschland. 
P.: “Bye bye dinosaur !”. 

Big Ben

Pinocchio and Ondina the fairy are safe and can finally sightsee Bolzano, gateway to the Dolomites. 

But something is not right.  

Can you guess what ? 

P: “Why is the Big Ben standing in place of Walther von der Vogelweide statue ? Am I getting crazy ? First the arcobalenA, then the dinosaur … are we in Bolzano for real ?”.

Ondina: “Oh, sorry Pinocchio, I still have a bit of sore throat and can’t sing very well. My magic powers are not perfect today. “

Luckily Fata Berlina is arriving from Berlin from the window of 3E Scuola Manzoni, Bolzano.

Fata Berlina: “Ondina don’t worry. I can fix the dinosaur and the Big Ben. “

And so she does.

Ondina, fata Berlina and Pinocchio can finally have their lunch: a nice Torgellen, a special South Tyrolean lunch with meat and chestnuts. 

They  drink an English cup of tea and think about their adventures. 

A new me

CHARACTERS: Pinocchio, bad fairy.

PROBLEM: the bad fairy wishes to change but is helpless.

FEELINGS: confused, sad, happy, proud.

SOLUTION: the bad fairy decides to go back to school to learn how to be a good fairy and be kind with everyone .

Fata Berlina: “I am sorry Pinocchio!”

Pinocchio hugs Berlina and smiles. She is confused. 

Fata Berlina: “Pinocchio, my heart is racing! I want to cry ... what is going on here?”

Pinocchio: “Don`t worry Berlina. You are happy and excited”.

Fata Berlina: “I like feeling like this, it´s new. I wish to become a good fairy and share these good vibes with everybody”.

Fata Berlina is suddenly sad. She doesn`t know how to change. She flies back to Berlin, to the Finow Schule. At the Branderburger Tor she meets the dinosaur. 

Dinosaur: “Hallo Berlina, why are you sad?

Dinosaur: “Come with me to the Finow Schule, thera are very kind students, Pinocchio Remix friends, in  year 3E that can help you. You’ll see be a good and kind fairy is a lot better than being bad”.

Students welcome Berlina fairy with enthusiasm. 

Students: “Berlina we are so happy you are here with us. We’ll have a lot of fun learning together about kindness!”.

meet at: Finow Schule Berlin 

Berlina calls Bolzano and invites Pinocchio, Geppetto, la Ondina fairy and all Pinocchio remix friends.

The kids in Berlin throw a surprise party and a football tournament. They meet at Finow Schule and then take a group photo next to the Tv Tower at Alexander Platz. 

Kids: “Pinocchio you are a really cool kid. We love spending time with you."

Pinocchio: “Thanks! Too kind of you, dear kids, dear fairies, dear dad I promise to keep up the good work and be a kind boy!”

Finow Schule, Berlin

A few adventures later….

P.: "Daddy daddy I am going to the Finow Schule !»
G. “All right take care”. Pinocchio doesn’t feel like going to school anymore so he calls the doctor.

P.:" I have a pain in my finger !" 

The doctor: “ Don’t worry Pinocchio I'm coming” and so after a few minutes someone knocks at the door.  Pinocchio opens the door but there is no doctor, the bad fairy, fairy Berlina is at the door. 

Fata Berlina: "Pinocchio I am here to say I am sorry. I am a kind fairy now. I have new friends in Berlin. Would you like to come with me ? "

P. " Yes, let´s go". 

The Pinocchio remix kids, fata Berlina, fairy Ondina, Pinocchio and the dinosaur learn to be kind. 

Pinocchio Remix kids: "Berlina it's nice to be together " 

Berlina: "I love it too... I really like to introduce you a wooden puppet that just turned into a good kid like myself. He was very kind with me."

Kids: " Yes, yes we really want to meet him. Let's have a party all together and invite all your Pinocchio remix friends from around Europe from Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Poland, Greece...!”

Pinocchio Touring Athens

Airport announcement: “Ladies and Gentlemen, flight IBG2425 from Sofia has landed”

Telemachus: Pinocchio will be here shortly!

Odysseas: Are you excited, son?

T: Yeah Dad! Pin and I have been friends for more than a year.

O: How did you two meet?

T: We met online! We were on the same team on a video game. There he comes!

Pinocchio: Oh, hi Telemachus! I’m so happy to finally meet you in person!

T; Hi Pin!! It’s nice to meet you too! This is my Dad, Odysseas! Dad this is my friend, Pinocchio!

O: Nice to meet you Pinocchio! (Extends his hand for a handshake)

P; Geia sas! I’ve heard a lot about you!

O: Have you ever been to Greece before?

P: No, this is my first time here and I’m very excited!

O: Okay! Let’s go to Athens!

They get in the car and they drive to the city centre. First stop, the Acropolis.

O: And this is the famous Parthenon, built by Pericles almost 2500 years ago.

P: That’s so cool!

O: Okay, shall we go now that we’ve toured the Acropolis?

They get to a restaurant in Plaka to eat and chat!

O: Do you like Athens so far?

P: It’s very nice, especially the Acropolis!,

T: Dad, why don’t you tell us a past adventure of yours?

O: Let me tell you about the Cyclop, Polephemus! While we were travelling, due to an accident, we got stranded on Cyclop’s island, where we faced an angry Cyclop. He ate most of my men but we managed to defeat him by blinding him!

P: That’s impressive! How did you come up with the plan?

T: My Dad is famous for being brave and clever.

O: Well now kids, I’ll let you hang out just the two of you

Odysseas leaves and the kids walk around the city!

As they are walking, Pinocchio persuades Telemachus to visit the ancient Agora and play around. As they are walking Pinocchio sees some spray cans and decides to leave his “mark” on the city! 

 Telemachus joins him and as they graffiti together the police sees them and starts chasing them. Eventually, they are arrested and they end up in the police station! Odysseas is called in to come and pick them up. On the way home, he scolds the kids and Pinocchio learns his lesson!

Stop whining and being so dramatic!

After Pinocchio left Athens, him and Telemachus continued talking online and everything seemed to be going well, until Pinocchio started acting up… He kept ignoring Telemachus’s texts and took ages to respond! And on top of that, whenever he responded he used inappropriate language. Telemachus tried to talk to him many times but Pinocchio wouldn’t budge, dismissing all off Telemachus’s claims.  In the meantime, Pinocchio with some friends of his had made a group chat and were making fun of Telemachus! But Pinocchio took it too far and started sharing photos of Telemachus. Eventually, a member of the chat group felt bad about the situation and told Telemachus what was going on. Telemachus felt betrayed by his friend and when he confronted him Pinocchio just shrugged it off and told him he was overly dramatic! After that, Telemachus cut Pinocchio off completely. After a few months his other friends cut him off too and he was left all alone, realising that he can’t keep acting like that! 

Pinocchio's Modern Odyssey

Pinocchio has landed in Greece. He’s made a long journey coming from Bulgaria by train and boat, even swimming! And after some long, painful walks he finally arrived in a small seaside  village in Peloponnese, called Tyros which barely has any residents. So Pinocchio thought it would be a good idea to drop his stuff at an abandoned place that no one seemed to own. After sitting for a while to rest, he went out on the beach to take a short walk and get some fresh air.

By the time he had walked for about a mile, he came across Odysseas, a kid that lived there all year round and who knew all the residents of this village.

Pinocchio: Hey, how are you doing? I’m sorry to bother you but do you know where I can find a place to eat because I’m starving?

Odysseas: Hey, I’m fine! How are you? Are you new here? I think there’s a restaurant just round the corner but I’m not sure there are any tables available.

P: Not so good! It’s been so difficult since I got here. Thanks for your time! I’ll go and check the restaurant out!

Minutes later Pinocchio checked his pockets and found out that all his money had been stolen. He immediately understood that Odysseas’s intentions were not that innocent. But hours after going back to the abandoned place he decided to live there anyway.

A few hours had passed when he heard a knock on the door…

P: Odysseas?! What are you doing here after all that?

O: I couldn’t stand that weight on my chest! I don’t know what had gotten into me… So here is all your staff.

P: I can’t believe that! I thought they were gone forever! Thank you. I really appreciate it!!!

O: Again, I’m really sorry for even thinking about stealing your stuff… And if you need to ask any questions, you can have my email and text me anything, anytime!.

After a few hours Pinocchio sent Odysseas a message: “Hello Odysseas! I really need to learn more about the village, its people and history! Tell me when you have some free time to hang out. Good evening!” which Odysseas answered immediately: “I’m free tomorrow morning! So, let’s meet at 11:00 at the village square!”

After hanging out for a while, Odysseas introduced him to all the villagers, showed him around the village where they admired all the statues of the significant people like Kapodistrias and Venizelos that had spent a while in the area! 

After a while, Pinocchio had to leave Tyros and go to a city to stay for good. Having said the last goodbyes, he packed his stuff, boarded a ship and left.
