Gordon was a normal 15 year old boy from
Seattle, Washington. He always dreamt
about having a pet, but his parents never
let him have one. He dreamed about any
pet in the world. A dog, a cat, even a
monkey! When he was having a "good
grades" streak one day, his parents finally
gave in.

Gordon's parents were able to get him a
pooch. One that wasn't too big or too small
for Gordon to take care of. Gordon decided
to call him "Alan". When Gordon first got
Alan, Alan was shy and always ran away
from Gordon. Gordon thought it was
normal for a dog to do that when it was
surrounded by unknown people.

Alan turned out to be really shy around
everybody he saw and Gordon was
disappointed about it. Gordon also realized
that every night, Alan would stare into the
sky. He wasn't sure how long Alan would
be there staring, but whenever Gordon
looked to see if he stopped, he was still
staring.

Gordon then decided to start interacting
more with Alan. He walked him around
Gordon's neighborhood and took him to the
park to play catch. Even then, he still
wouldn't make any response to anything.
Gordon even considered getting rid of the
Alan, but he knew not to give up so early.

One night as Alan stared into the sky, as usual,
Gordon came up to him and asked "Why are
you like this?"
Alan looked at Gordon, and amazingly said in
English, "Well, I want to go home, I don't like it
here."
Gordon was shocked. How could a dog speak
English?!?
"Holy Cow!", said Gordon. "How can you
speak English? You're a dog!"
"First of all, thank you for stating the obvious,
and second, I learned it back on my planet.
Yes, I am an alien..."

"Wow!" exclaimed Gordon. "I didn't think
aliens existed."
Alan made an frown, "Yes, most of you humans
are ignorant of possibilities outside Earth.
"So, is your planet dominated by dogs or
something?" Asked Gordon.
"Not particularly. We all look just look you!
But I'm a dog because I was experimented on."
"Amazing!"
"Since you seem to be determined to do
anything to make your dog happy, I need you
to send me back home." said Alan in a
determined voice.

"Well, so much for wanting a normal dog. How
can I do this?"
Alan cleared his throat. "First, we must go to
the pet store near the city hall."
"Okay then..."
Gordon was very confused. In 5 minutes, he
went from trying to get interactive with his dog,
to trying to get rid of him.

The following morning, Alan and Gordon went
to the Pet Shop where Alan was from.
"Okay, now you must tell the owner at the front
desk that you have a dog that talks and you
would like to return him."
Gordon tried to comprehend. "Is this guy also
from wherever you're from?"
"No, but he knows a guy."
Gordon walked to the owner and told him what
Alan said.
"Come this way." the man said as he was
walking to the back of the building.

PET SHOP

Gordon and the man walked into a room.
"I'll be right back with him." said the man.
Gordon was left alone in the room, scared. He
was afraid that he might have gotten himself in
a whole lot of trouble.
Several minutes later, another man with a
laboratory coat came in. He sat on a chair
across from Gordon.
He looked at Gordon with a serious face. "So,
I believe you have stumbled upon one of my
pets."
"If you're talking about a dog who can speak
perfect English and claims it's from another
planet, then yes."

The man chuckled. "Yes. There are others on
our planet that torture people, turning them into
animals like dogs or hamsters. They then send
them to this planet to be pets for humans for as
long as they live. Now I am the hope for those
animals. I turn them back into their human form
and they're then sent back to my planet. Now
all I need is five hundred dollars to change your
dog back to look like me. The cost is high
because of the dangers involved in the
conversion.
"What?!" exclaimed Gordon. "I'm sorry sir, but
I do not have that much money and I don't see
the benefit of having him sent back."

"I'll just be wasting money to get rid of my dog."
Gordon stood up and walked towards the door.
"Actually there is a way you can help me," said
the man. "You can convert him with me."
Gordon stopped in front of the door, thinking
about this opportunity. "Okay," he said, "I will."
"Excellent," the man said, "you must get the dog
and bring him here at once. This will only take
about 10 minutes. I will also need you here
tomorrow to finish the conversion."
