Last month, our teacher gave us an assignment at school. When she said, “You will write about a place you have visited,” I got very excited. Because we went to Safranbolu with my family during the summer vacation and I really liked it. With its historical houses, narrow streets, and people, it made me feel like I had gone to a completely different place. That’s why I chose Safranbolu as the subject of the book. Before I started writing, I looked at the photos on my phone and tried to remember what I did there.
I even sat down and drew the old houses I visited there and tried to remember what I ate and where. Every detail came back to life and I got excited as if I had gone there again. That’s why I will tell you about that day, what I experienced, and how I felt.
I woke up early on the morning of the trip. The weather hadn’t even fully brightened yet. While my mother and sister were preparing breakfast, my father was putting the bags in the car. I was looking out the window. The sky was so peaceful.
I couldn’t wait to get on the road. It was 6:30 in the morning when we got in the car. The road took about four hours, but it didn’t seem long to me because I listened to music, watched the trees outside, and my father was telling me his military memories. They were so entertaining, I wondered what I would experience when I joined the military. I listened to interesting stories. We stopped at a few places on the road. We ate gözleme (a type of flatbread) and drank tea. Even those moments were so enjoyable because we were all together as a family.
There were villages on the sides of the road, and I could see people working in the fields. Getting out of the city and getting closer to nature made me so happy.
When we arrived in Safranbolu, it was close to noon. After parking the car, we immediately started walking to the historical bazaar. The first thing that caught my attention was that all the houses looked alike, but each one had a different atmosphere. Whitewashed walls, brown wooden windows, flowered balconies
