They just stood there and didn't know what to do with what they saw. After a while, they decided to tell the wise man of the village about the problem and set off towards Wise Grandfather's house. After a long and tiring walk, they arrived at Wise Grandfather's door. Lara knocked on the door. Wise Grandfather called out, "Who is it?" and they all said, "We're here, Wise Grandfather." The door opened.

When Wise Grandfather sees Lara worried, he immediately asks.

-Hello children, is there a problem?

Lara says in a sad voice:

-There is a lot of garbage in the stream, the fish cannot swim, the water is polluted.

Grandfather shakes his head:

-This is very sad news, but do not worry, we can try to find a solution.

The children say excitedly:

-What can we do?

The Wise Grandfather climbed onto a platform, so everyone could see him, and he started talking.

-My dear fellow citizens, we called you tonight to share a problem of our village.  The stream is filled with trash and we need to do something about it.Tomorrow at noon we will all gather at the stream with gloves and bags and we will divide into groups. We need four groups with cans. The glass, the plastic, the paper and the rest of the trash.  We will pick up everything and put it in the right can. Do you all agree with me, or someone has a better idea?

Mladý chlapec váhavo zdvihol ruku. „Dedko Bilge, čo budeme robiť po vyzbieraní odpadkov?“ „Ak ich len vyčistíme bez akýchkoľvek zmien, potok sa môže znova zašpiniť,“ povedal. Dedko Bilge s vrúcnym úsmevom povedal: „Máš úplnú pravdu. Po vyčistení potoka sa porozprávajme o tom, čo môžeme urobiť, aby sa to už neopakovalo.“ Dedinčania tieto slová nadšene prijali. Na druhý deň, napoludnie, sa všetci stretli pri potoku a pripravili sa na zmenu.

Dedinčania boli plní energie a odhodlania. Práca sa začala. Spoločne zbierali odpadky a zároveň začali premýšľať o pláne. S každým nazbieraným kusom odpadkov ich nadšenie rástlo. Dedko Bilge im ukázal, ako správne usporiadať kamene a ako vytvoriť účinné prekážky.

Keď bol potok konečne vyčistený, sadli si na breh a začali sa rozprávať o ďalších krokoch.

„Čo keby sme každý mesiac zorganizovali pravidelné čistenie potoka?“

Dedko Bilge sa na všetkých hrdo pozrel. „Vidíte, ako sa môžeme spojiť pre dobrú vec? Spoločne môžeme chrániť náš potok a prírodu okolo nás.“

  Lara, gururla ekledi, "Ve belki de derenin etrafına daha fazla çiçek ve ağaç dikebiliriz, böylece daha da güzel olur ve daha fazla kuş çeker! Ve  belki de insanlara çöp atmamaları gerektiğini  hatırlatan tabelalar koyabiliriz  ."

   Büyükbaba Bilge düşünceli bir şekilde başını salladı. "Bunların hepsi harika fikirler. Bu önerileri uygulamaya koyalım. Şimdi daha küçük gruplar oluşturacağız. Bir grup aylık temizlikleri organize etmekten, diğeri çiçek ve ağaç dikmekten, üçüncüsü tabelalar oluşturup asmaktan ve dördüncüsü aileleri ziyaret edip çevresel sorumluluk hakkında konuşmaktan sorumlu olacak."

    Coşku kalabalığın içinde kabardı ve tüm köy harekete geçti.  Su berraklaştı ve balıklar geri döndü. Kuş cıvıltıları daha da neşeli hale geldi, temiz kıyılarda oynayan çocukların kahkahalarıyla harmanlandı. Lara, neşe ve gurur duygusuyla sık sık dereyi ziyaret etti. Küçük bir çocuk grubunun bile, konuşarak ve harekete geçerek, doğa sevgisi için büyük şeyler yapması için tüm bir köye ilham verebileceğini fark etti.

The children couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the clean stream. Lara dipped her hands into the water and said with a smile, “Look! The fish have come back!” Everyone applauded.

At that moment, a flock of birds flew across the sky. Mert exclaimed excitedly, “It feels like nature is thanking us!”

That day, the children realized they could make a big difference with their small hands. It wasn’t just about cleaning—it was the beginning of a friendship with nature.

 Lara ve yaşadığı köyün insanları doğa koruma çalışmalarını herkese örnek olacak şekilde yürüttüler. Bölgenin en yeşil ve yaşanabilir köyü oldukları duyuldu. Böylece çevre köylerin de dikkatini çektiler. Bu gelenek çevre ülkelerde yaygınlaştı ve dünya yaşanabilir bir yer haline geldi.

Years passed. Lara grew up and studied environmental sciences. After graduating from university, she returned to her village and started working as an environmental leader. The village was now known as a model settlement not only in Türkiye but also in the world.

And one day, Lara's little cousin Elif looked at the crystal clear stream, saw the fish and smiled just like Lara did years ago:

"Nature is smiling at us," she said.

        Lara and Elif attracted the attention of environmental organization after introducing the new life in their village  to the world. One day they received in invitation  from the United Nations. They were invited to the summit of young environmentalists. Their village was shown as a model for sustainable living.

       Now they were environmental heroes not only of their village but of the whole world.
