Mathias
Asher
Jim Tom

Once upon a time, deep in the forest there were three
brothers that lived in three log houses right next to one another.
In the biggest of the cabins lived the oldest brother Asher and in
the smallest lived the youngest brother Jim Tom. In the medium
sized cabin lived the second oldest brother Mathias.

Winter was fast approaching and the brothers planned a
hunt for food for the winter. They set out the first day
with long bow in hand and arrows in quiver. When they
arrived at the hunting cabin set up deeper in the woods,
they sat down and began to get ready for morning.

That night, Jim Tom, the youngest brother, proposed a
bet. “Tomorrow, whoever shoots the biggest deer would
get the biggest house and whoever shot the smallest deer
would get the smallest house.” Being as drunk as they
were, the other brothers accepted.

The next morning they grabbed their gear and headed
out. They had been walking for about an hour when
Mathias spotted a fresh buck track and began to follow it.
The other brothers kept on the trail. Mathias was following
the trail and after an hour he saw a buck, it was big but
not big enough so he kept walking on the trail.

About an hour later, he saw a bigger buck but passed for
an even bigger one because he really wanted Asher’s
house. After following the tracks for about five hours, he
came to the edge of the property line and he saw the deer
on the other side of the river. He shot and the buck
dropped. The shot went through one of his lungs and
pierced his heart.

He was dragging his buck back, in the dark, when he
heard some commotion. He turned to a see a pack of six
wolves and he then drew his bow and shot one.

The others attacked and he fended them off but in the
fight he lost one of his hands and the other wolves took
his kill.

That night Jim Tom was getting worried that he would not get the
biggest deer so he decided he was going to cut the string on Asher’s
bow. He would not cut all the way, he would just make a slit so that
when Asher pulled the bow back to shoot it would snap and the deer
would run. That night when they were all sleeping, Jim Tom snuck
into Asher’s room and made a slit in the string and then he went to
bed. Later that night an angel came into the cabin and switched
Asher and Jim Tom’s bow.
