THESE NOW SO-NAMED 'FREEDMEN' BESOUGHT THE 'FREEDMEN'S BUREAU' FOR MISTREATMENT, HOWEVER, "BLACK CODES" PASSED IN LATE 1865 AND PREVENT NOW-NAMED, "BLACK PEOPLE"/"NEGROES" FROM OWNING OR LEASING LAND. THE FREEDMEN'S BUREAU, PLACED FEDERAL LAW OVER THESE STATE-MADE BY-LAW "CODES", BUT COULD NOT GUARANTEE TO ENFORCE THIS AS MANY UNION TROOPS WERE DISCHARGED.
SOME EX-TROOPS WOULD JOIN THE KU KLUX KLAN UNDER THE GUISE OF DEFENDING LOCAL CAUCASIANS AND THEIR PROPERTY AGAINST CHAHTA WHO WERE OPPRESSED, 'UNFAIRLY TREATED', AND MURDERED BY CAUCASIANS. MIXED-BLOOD CHAHTA CHIEFS HAD ORGANIZED A GROUP SIMILAR TO THE KKK CALLED THE 'VIGILANCE COMMITTEE' (THE PRECURSOR TO THEIR 'LIGHTHORSEMEN'), 1ST THOUGH, WITH INSIDER HELP FROM 'WHITE' MISSIONARIES- A GROUP OF PATROLLERS (IN SOME PLACES REFERRED TO AS, 'PADDY-ROLLERS'), ESTABLISHED AFTER 1821, TO HARASS AND POSSIBLY KILL ANY P.O.C. CAUGHT IN INDIAN TERRITORY; SADLY, THIS MAY PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN WHY THEIR DARKER-COMPLEXIONED FAMILY MEMBERS ARE FOUND TODAY BELOW THE FORMER 'CHOCTAW LINE', AND LATER CLOSER, ON OR NEAR RESERVATIONS. THE THREE-FIFTHS COMPROMISE ENDS AND INDIANS ARE NOT COUNTED ON THE NEXT CENSUS (1870). THROUGH THE 'BLACK CODES' THE DARKER-HUED INDIANS IN MS. FELT AS IF THEY WERE ENSLAVED, EVEN AFTER 'EMANCIPATION', BY APPRENTICESHIP LAW THAT HAD THEM REFER TO THE EMPLOYER AS, "MASTER"/"MISTRESS", AS IF ENSLAVED. VAGRANT LAW, WHICH ALSO REQUIRED MANDATORY CONTRACTS/PAPERWORK TO BE PRODUCED LIKE ONE HELD AS A SLAVE- FROM MANY NARRATIVES OF POC FROM THIS ERA, THERE DOUBTLESSLY MUST'VE BEEN SLAVE-TYPE TREATMENT TOWARDS POC PRIOR TO 1865. A FARMER, WILLIAM HEMINGWAY, PURPOSELY & WRONGFULLY IS APPOINTED TO REVISE THE STATE LAWS, REVISING SLAVERY STATUTES TO REFLECT TO A FREE STATE. BY THIS PURPOSED-WRONGDOING, PRESIDENT ANDREW JOHNSON NEVER ENACTED THIS. THOUGH SLAVERY WAS SUPPOSEDLY ABOLISHED ON OCT. 14TH & 19TH OF 1865, NOT BEING WILLING TO BACK POC CHAHTA, REFERRED TO MANY TIMES AS, 'NEGROES', CAUSES MORE DIVISIONS.
THE DARKER CHAHTA ARE SAID TO BE KNOWN TO STEAL FROM THE LIGHTER-HUED. AS OVERALL THIEVERY PICKS UP, MUCH CHAHTA CATTLE IS STOLEN BY THIEVES/PASSERS-BY. WHEN A TAX WAS IMPLEMENTED ON ALL CATTLE PASSING THROUGH THEIR LAND. BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMIC/OPPRESSIVE CONDITION, CRIME ESCALATES. COUNTY GOVERNMENTS SHUT DOWN, AND DISENFRANCHISED POOR 'WHITES' AND DARKER CHAHTA, EVEN FROM OUT OF STATE, COMMIT CRIMES, DESTROY LIVESTOCK, AND ALLEGEDLY MURDER. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, IN PARTIAL ADMITTANCE, BLAME FORCED EDUCATION AND FORCED POLITICAL-RELIGION. THE CHAHTA DEBT, AS A NATION, WAS INCALCULABLE.
1866*** - AS INDIANS, REFERRED TO AS 'NEGROES' ARE MORE QUALIFIED FOR MANY JOBS, IT CREATES TENSION BETWEEN THEM AND CAUCASIANS. UNION GENERAL HATCHETT SAYS, "AT ISSUE IN THE SOUTH IS NOT WHAT SHALL BE DONE WITH THE 'NEGRO' (INDIAN), BUT WHAT SHALL BE DONE WITH THE WHITES". RADICAL POLITICIANS FORM MOBS AGAINST INDIANS. IN THE CHAHTA AND CHICKASAW TREATY OF WASHINGTON OF 1866, THE FEDERAL GOVT. SUMMONED THE CHAHTA DELEGATION TO WASHINGTON, FORCED THEM TO SIGN THIS TREATY, AND DEMANDED THAT MS. CHAHTA FREE THOSE ('WHITES') THEY WERE STILL HOLDING AS SLAVES THROUGH A LOOPHOLE IN THEIR CONSTITUTION, AND TO GRANT THEM FULL RIGHTS AS "CITIZENS" (WHICH THEY MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE). THE SOUTHERN HOMESTEAD ACT OF 1866 GUARANTEES LAND TO P.O.C. WHO WOULD PURPOSELY-IDENTIFY AS 'EX-SLAVES' ONLY, AND NOT 'INDIAN'. MORE ‘BLACK CODES’ PASS IN MISSISSIPPI (FIRST), REFERRING TO INDIANS AS ‘FREEDMEN’, ‘NEGROES’, OR ‘MULATTOES’. CHAHTA LEADERSHIP CREATED THEIR OWN FORM OF 'BLACK CODES'. HOWBEIT, THE INDIAN WAS ALLOWED TO VOTE, BUT ONLY AS A 'CITIZEN' AND ADMITTING THEY WERE SOMEHOW, 'FREEDMEN'. THE FREEDMAN BUREAU AGENT ASKED TO BE RELIEVED OF DUTY IN APRIL OF 1866, UPON 'CHOCTAW LAW' NOW GOVERNING THE NEW WAGE SYSTEM. THE DARKER ARE CONSIDERED, "NEGROES", AND ARE THE 'RESPONSIBILITY' OF THE LIGHTER-COMPLEXIONED CHAHTA - THE ONLY ONES NOW REFERRED TO AS 'CHOCTAW'. RACIST CHIEFS USED THE BLACK CODES' VAGRANT LAW AND THE FACT THAT THE 'ADOPTION' OF FREEDMEN WAS AN OPTION TO BE SOMEHOW CALLED/CONSIDERED THE FORMER 'MASTERS' OF THESE SO-NAMED 'FREEDMEN'. UPON THE ABOVE-MENTIONED TREATY BEING RATIFIED, THE DARKER CHAHTA (AND CHIKASHA), REFERRED TO AS "NEGROES" AND "COLORED", WERE REQUESTED BY GENERAL COUNCIL TO REQUEST TO THE COMMISSION OF INDIAN AFFAIRS TO REMOVE THEM ALL. THIS WAS NOT BEFORE THE U.S. GAVE THE TRIBES MONEY FOR 'ADOPTION' PURPOSES ANYWAY AND THEY DELAYED REMOVAL TO 1868.
1867******* - RATIFICATION OF THE 1866 'PEACE TREATY' IS BEGAN THIS YEAR BY OPENING SCHOOLS IN CHAHTA NEIGHBORHOODS. ABOUT ONE-THIRD OF THE TEACHERS WERE CAUCASIAN, MANY BEING UNQUALIFIED.
1868** - THE FOURTH AMENDMENT IS ADDED TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE U.S. LABELING THE OFF-RESERVATION DARKER-COMPLEXIONED INDIANS, “AFRICAN-AMERICANS”; THEY WERE CALLED, "CITIZENS" AFTER THIS YEAR, BUT HAD NO PUBLIC RIGHTS. THEY WERE ALLOWED THE USE OF CHAHTA LAND TO CULTIVATE. SO-CALLED 'COLORED POPULATION' WROTE LETTERS TO PRESIDENT GRANT, UP UNTIL 1870 AT LEAST, COMPLAINING OF NOT WANTING TO BE REMOVED FROM "HOME", PROVING THEY WERE ONE AND THE SAME CHAHTA AS THEIR LIGHTER-COMPLEXIONED FAMILY MEMBERS ON THE RESERVATION. BEING REFERRED TO AS, "FREEDMEN", THEY DIDN'T TRUST 'CHOCTAW CITIZENSHIP OR LAW', AND WANTED FEDERAL PROTECTION FROM VARIOUS MISTREATMENTS, OBVIOUSLY BRINGING THE FREEDMENS' BUREAU BACK INTO PLAY.
1869**** - THE U.S. IS STILL PAYING THE CHAHTA AND CHIKASHA TO ADOPT SO-CALLED FREEDMEN THEY REJECTED. LETTERS ARE WRITTEN IN 1869-70, BY CAUCASIANS, TO GET DARKER CHAHTA 'ADOPTED' AND ONTO RESERVATIONS AND SETTLE IN THEIR OCCUPIED LANDS, THEY SPONSORED FAKE ADOPTION-OF-FREEDMEN MEETINGS TO THIS END. WHEN UPRISING OCCURRED, THEY WERE CALLED REBEL INDIANS AND SEMI-BARBAROUS, WITH A SPECIAL AGENT FROM THE FREEDMEN'S BUREAU TO CONCUR.
1871********** - PRESIDENT GRANT USES FEDERAL TROOPS TO SUPPRESS THE MOVING OF THE KU KLUX KLAN AGAINST INDIANS WHO VOTED (1860'S AND 1870'S). RACIST CAUCASIAN POLITICIANS, WHO CALLED THEMSELVES 'REDEEMERS', THROUGH RIGGED ELECTIONS/VOTER FRAUD, & VIOLENCE CONTROLLED ELECTIONS, STATE BY STATE.
1872* - THE FREEDMEN'S BUREAU COMPLETELY CLOSES. THE SUPREME COURT DECIDES CITIZENSHIP AND ALL THOSE WITH REJECTED CLAIMS WERE REMOVED AS 'INTRUDERS'.
1873 - THE CHAHTA ADOPT THE SUPREME COURTS' 1872 CUSTOM. BECAUSE OF THE REDEEMERS' TACTICS SINCE 1871, AN ECONOMIC DEPRESSION REFERRED TO AS THE 'PANIC OF 1873' SHIFTS UNDERCURRENT RAILROAD SCHEMES AND LEADS TO A RAILROAD STRIKE. CHAHTA, J. S. STANDLEY, LIVING AS A "WHITE MAN" MOVES TO CHAHTA COUNTRY AND IS GIVEN CITIZENSHIP.
1874********* - CONGRESS'S 'FERRY BILL' IS ATTEMPTED, THAT WOULD INCREASE INFLATION, BUT IS REJECTED BY PRESIDENT GRANT. AN INTERIOR DEPARTMENT'S BILL GIVES CHAHTA/CHIKASHA 'FREEDMEN' EQUAL RIGHTS, CITIZENSHIP, MONIES, & PUBLIC DOMAIN. 'FREEDMAN'S BANK' CLOSES & DEPOSITORS LOSE MILLIONS WITH ONLY 10% REGAINED IN 1880 IN MS.
1875**** - THE DAY & BOARDING, ALL-GIRLS SCHOOL, ST. MARY OF THE PINES, OPENS IN CHATAWA, MS. INTEGRATING ‘WHITE’ & FAIR-SKINNED/MIXED CHAHTA GIRLS ONLY. THEY WERE PRESSURED TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED WEARING FAKE, STEREOTYPICAL, ANTIQUATED-LOOKING OUTFITS, ASHAMEDLY MADE TO POSE IN THE MIDDLE LIKE MASCOTS. THE SCHOOL WOULD ALSO HOST SCHOOL EVENTS AND PLAYS, BELITTLING CHAHTA, PORTRAYING THEM AS NO LONGER EXISTING, HOSTILE, DEFENDING THE MURDERING OF THEM, AND HOSTED SLIGHTLY DARKER INDIANS TO PLAY THEIR PARTS AND ALSO CAUCASIANS. THE 'SPECIE RESUMPTION ACT OF 1875' NOW BACKS THE U.S. DOLLAR WITH GOLD TO CURB INFLATION. A MARRIAGE LAW IS PASSED BY CHAHTA TO PREVENT CAUCASIAN MEN FROM TAKING ADVANTAGE OF MARRYING CHAHTA WOMEN FOR TRIBAL CITIZEN PERKS, BUT CAN BE OVERLOOKED FOR $25.
