Once upon a time, deep under the sea, there was a
mermaid named Ariel. Ariel was very adventurous,
and loved to find new things. She dreamed of one
day being able to explore the outside world.

Ariel loved finding treasures from the outside world. Often,
she would find things that sank down from the surface.
Many were very heavy and precious objects, and the large
gravitational pull(due to a large mass) caused them to
drop very fast. What a sight to see a shiny hairbrush
rocketing down through the water!

Gravity
Buoyancy

One day, Ariel was admiring the sunshine when a
huge ship floated by. The ship bobbed on top of
the water, back and forth. This was made possible
because the buoyant force of the water was
stronger than the ship's gravity.
Gravity
Buoyancy

Ariel saw a handsome prince on the mysterious
ship, so she decided to follow it to shore. When she
reached the beach, she watched the prince pull up
his little row boat that he used to get to land.
Because of friction, the boat was able to stay on
shore instead of washing away. There was no
movement because the forces were balanced.

Pull
Friction

Suddenly, a whirlpool appeared and pulled Ariel
under! Due to centripetal force, she spun around and
around, until finally she stopped. When she looked
up, there was an ugly sea lady in front of her.

The lady's name was Ursula, and she gave Ariel legs so she
could meet her prince. Since Ariel lost her tail, she experienced
a mass and weight change, resulting in a different overall
density. She had to get used to getting around with two legs,
instead of a tail. It was harder for her to float, because her mass
change made her increase in weight, so she had a larger
gravitational pull.

Gravity
Buoyancy

Ariel met her prince charming,
and they immediately fell in love.
They got married...

...and lived happily ever after.
