Michelangelo had a life that was also unusually long for his time, since he lived eighty-nine years.

Michelangelo worked for us in Florence.

It was 1536 when the artist began working on the Last Judgment for me in the Sistine Chapel.

Among the many ideal faces and those of common people that I portrayed, there are some notables ones of my contemporaries.

St. Peter has the likeness of Pope Paul III, the pontif under whom I began and finished the work, although the commissioner his predecessor Clemente VII Medici.

St. Bartholomeus, on the other hand, bears a striking resemblance to Pietro Aretino. In the skin he holds in his hand, is a self-portrait of mine, due to the heated exchange of letters I had with him.

Biagio da Cesena is Minos himself as narrated in Canto V of Dante's Inferno. He stands here in front of the second circle of the lustful and judges the damned, indicating with circle they must go to.

Why  did I give him the likeness of Biagio da Cesena? He had complained to Pope Paul III about the too many nudes in the Judgment, so I painted him naked, so that everyone could see.

In the Judgment, I also included Pope Julius II.
He's the one with the white beard and the papal skullcap on his head, standing behind St. John the Baptist.
