Once upon a time there lived an evil Queen-
Queen England. The Queen treated Snow White
very poorly, so one day Snow White left in
hopes of having a better life. Snow White
became very lost in her ways and stumbled
upon the 7 principles. They too had been
mistreated by the Queen, and they were willing
to take her in, under a few conditions...

Popular SovereigntyUnder this house hold I think the PEOPLE should have the ultimate
authority and the government's actions are based upon what the
people want. This is laid out in our constitution in Article 1, Section
2; it says that people elect leaders and can impeach them too.
Amendments 15, 19, 23, and 26 gives everyone in the U.S. the right
to vote and that right can not be taken away. Also at the beginning of
the constitution it says "We the people..." indicating that everyone
has a voice.
It is necessary to have this because the Queen never allowed us to
have a say in things and she ruled things her way. This affects us
by allowing us to actually rule ourselves, and if
we have a bad leader, we wont have to be stuck
with them and their awful actions.

Limited Government

We should have a Limited Government that dictates that the rule of law
protects the rights of citizens, maintains order, and limits the power of
the government. This way it makes sure all citizens are equal under the
law, including our leaders! Limited Government is reflected in the
constitution in Article 2, Section 4. It talks about how the president and
all civil Officers of the United States can be removed from Office on
Impeachment for crimes. This includes the idea that the law implies to
every citizen, now matter how high ranked you are. This idea was
originated from several places. One is the Fundamental Orders of
Connecticut, where it clearly lists what the government can and cant do.
Another document was the Magna Carta, that limited the power of the
kind in England.
Limited Government affects you by protecting us from a
cruel leader like Queen England! It also makes sure that
we aren't being ruled by a criminal that will lead us to
doom!

Republicanism
I speak for the trees!I also think we should use republicanism, where we the citizens elect representatives
to make decisions on their behalf, this is considered a form of democracy.
Republicanism is reflected in the Constitution in Article 1, section 2, 1. It says that
the people of each state elect a person to represent the people of that state and
their opinions in the House of Representatives.
Republicanism was originally used in Parliament, which was England's representative
government. I like the idea of electing representatives, except in the constitution we
won't use the exact same way England did, they only had one house elected by the
people. This concept of republicanism was also used in the Virginia House of
Burgesses! It was the first representative government in the colonies. Our
representatives can also present a bill before congress in order to one day turn that
bill into a law!
This principle effects you by allowing your voice and ideas
to be heard. It's better to use republicanism than direct
democracy because we have way too many people and not
enough time to hear each and everyone's ideas. If we
use republicanism, you and your state
can combine ideas that are easier
for the House of Representatives
to take in and possibly use.

Separation of Powers
Our house hold will have Separation of Powers. This principle means that in our
government , power is divided among three equal branches, and each branch has specific
areas of concern and specific powers. We can find this in the Constitution in Article 1,2,
and 3. Each article talks about a certain branch and its powers. The three branches are
the Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, and Judicial Branch.
This brilliant idea came from Baron de Montesquieu, he believed that the government
should be split into 3 branches to keep one government from becoming too powerful. After
experiencing Queen England, we want to ensure that one person or group can't become
too powerful. With the Separation of Powers, there will be more thought put into the
different sections each branch is responsible for. We will have a more well- structured
government to secure your safety. An example is that the
Executive Branch enforces laws, instead of just one ruler, like Queen
England doing all the enforcing, we will have one branch that is
specifically qualified for enforcing the laws.

Checks and BalancesI think what Dopey has to say is a great idea, but I also think we should add on to it
so that the separation of powers plan goes smoothly! I'm proposing the idea of
checks and balances. The branches will interact with each other through this system.
Checks and Balances are powers and controls that each branch has over the other
two branches. When me and Dopey's ideas are combined they will work together to
ensure that no part of our government becomes too powerful. The Checks and
Balances are reflected in the Constitution when it talks about the power each branch
has over one another and how they are able to chack each other. Of course, Baron
de Montesquieu and his genius mind also came up with the idea of checks and
balances. Checks and Balances make sure that the president, Legislative branch,
Judiciary branch, etc. doesn't over throw any other branch and turn our government
into a dictatorship. The Queen of England abused her powers, but no one could stop
her because we didn't have the Checks and Balances system. This affects us by
protecting us from a dictatorship. We will never have to worry about losing our
government we have always dreamed of and worked so hard for!

FederalismYeah, Yeah... all this talk about the national government, let's not forget about the
state power here!!! I say we should use federalism, a system of government in
which power is divided between a central government and smaller political units. The
Constitution assigns certain powers to the national government (delegated powers),
powers to the states (reserved powers), and powers shared between both the
states and the U.S. (concurrent powers). It is also reflected in the tenth
amendment, which gives powers not delegated to the U.S. to the states.
The origin of federalism is from the Albany plan of Union. Benjamin Franklin was the
first one to suggest that colonies could keep individual power while banding together
for the good of the whole. The states were afraid of giving up their power to the
central government, so they rejected it. We soon learned that when the states are
given most of the power, the nation as a whole doesn't do very well. This affects
you in many ways, depending on what state you live in. Like your education is
chosen by the state you live in, so you could be learning something totally different
than a person who lives in Florida. The age
that you can start driving is also dependent on what state you live in.
Though when it comes to delegated powers, every state must follow
the same rules.

Individual RightsLast but not least... our our household will have Individual Rights. This is the
idea that all people are born with certain rights that can't be taken away from
the government, in fact it is the governments job to protect these rights. This
is reflected in the constitution in the Bill of Rights, where it states all our rights.
For example the first amendment gives us the freedom of speech, press,
religion and the right to assemble and to petition the government. Some
feared that since some rights weren't listed, it meant that we didn't have those
rights. Amendment 9 states that people have rights not listed in this list of
rights. I think we should have individual rights in the constitution because we
feel like Queen England took away many of our individual rights! John Lock
also had a similar idea called "natural rights" and believed the government
should protect them. The Anti-Federalists also felt that a strong central
government would take away the rights of the people. They felt that a list of
rights should be included in the Constitution to make sure this doesn't happen.
Individual Rights affects us by ensuring that we are being treated equal and
that are rights are not taken away from us. An example is our right of
freedom from unjust search and seizure; so the government can't just
barge into our house with out a warrant.
