A long time ago, near a village called Corny Glen, there lived a dragon. He was huge, covered in sharp, pointy scales and he lived alone.

He lived in a nest made of sticks and leaves high in an old, dead tree above the village. His scales were the color of the midnight sky.

Lia wanted to be a knight. She was strong, curious, brave, and determined. Even if some people in her village laughed and said, "You can't be a knight, and you will never be a knight!" She ignored them. But her parents thought she would never be and shouldn't be a knight and should be a doctor instead. "Lia, get your head out of the clouds and focus on your life." Her mom said, shaking her head.

Sure, the dragon could breathe fire. But there were people with horrible, smelly breath. And sure, the Dragon looked scary. But there were Dogs in the village who looked scarier. ( Including her dog, who is a bit scary but more cute)

Everyone in Corny Glen was scared of the dragon, everyone but one precocious girl.

I will be a knight.

One day, the dragon had come down from his nest and was looking at the village from the cornfields.

Everyone ran to the emergency bunker to escape the dragon, everyone except for Lia.

Armed with her homemade wooden sword, metal helmet, and wooden shield, Lia ran through the empty village to the cornfield.

When she spotted the dragon, Lia snuck up behind him.

“Excuse me, mister!” Lia yelled. The dragon roared. He lowered his head to her level and stared at her. Lia felt the dragon’s hot breath on her face.

“I’m Lia,” she said. “I’ve come to tell you to go away. You’re scaring everybody, including my family and dog.” "Oh, my name is Thunderclaw," Said the dragon. "and it's not my fault I'm big and scary."

Thunderclaw’s breath quickened. Sniff! Sniff! Sniff! It didn't sound like his fire was about to blow. Lia braced herself anyway. But instead of blazing fire coming out of his mouth, big, wet tears began falling down Thunderclaw’s snout.

“I’m so lonely. Nobody likes me,” Thunderclaw said.

Lia gave the dragon a tissue. “Why should anyone like you?” Lia replied. “You burned down the castle.”

“I didn’t burn down the castle,” Thunderclaw said. “It was struck by lightning. I would never do that.”

“Wow,” Lia said. “Sounds like you’re the victim of a smear campaign. We’ve got to fix this. What are you good at?”

“Breathing fire, flying (Even though he's so fat), and being scary without trying,” replied Thunderclaw.

“Well, let’s see the fire,” ordered Lia.

Thunderclaw breathed deeply and let out the biggest fire breath he ever did.

“Look out for the corn field!” Lia yelled. But it was too late. Thunderclaw’s fire shot out through the stalks and the field was ablaze.

Suddenly, the air filled with the sound of pops. Thousands and thousands of popcorn kernels jumped up into the sky and fell back down again as fluffy, yummy white popcorn.

A book about a girl who wants to be a knight and a dragon that wants friends, read to find out what happens. I promise you that this book is not like the other dragon books. I changed it a bit. I worked very hard on it. Plz read it. :3
