          Chapter 1

    "Our plastic planet story"

                the 3rd grade students of 

the 2nd and 10th Primary Schools of Elefsina, Greece

Once upon a time, over the stars and over the planets, on the Ecoplanet there lived four eco-heroes. They were the guardians of Mother Nature created to save all the planets which were endangered by devastating activities of its citizens. Each of the guardians has got different, unique superpower, which help him/her to fight against the biggest ecological problems of the world

.

Aquarius - the guardian of water, who reigns all sources of water

Forest Lover - a hero who fights deforestation by growing trees

Plastic Destroyer - a heroine who removes all the sources of plastic

Clean Girl - a heroine who restores cleanliness everywhere

One day Mother Nature said to the guardians:

-Go, I send you on Earth. It has been a long time since I've been hearing complaints from my beloved children. Animals are dying, trees are being cut off, water is in crisis, the air is poisoned. There are places which will soon go under the piles of plastic rubbish. If nothing happens the Earth will not exist anymore.

The team of Eco-heroes landed on Earth and started to look for the signs of destruction that Mother Nature told them about. They walked through the mountains and valleys for a long time. Suddenly they felt tired, hungry and thirsty. 

-Let's find some place were we can rest and drink some water.

In the middle of the forest they found a meadow and a little stream but when they came closer to its bank they saw loads of plastic rubbish floating on a surface.

-That's incredible! It can't be like that! - said Plastic Destroyer - This plastic will resolve for hundreds of years!

- We have to get rid of it immediately! - said Aquarius

-I will stop the water from flowing and you are to take care of this whole plastic!

They did what they said. Aquarius stopped the water from flowing so that all the plastic bottles and other packages didn't spread. Plastic Destroyer gathered all the rubbish in one place and said:

-I will go and seek a place on Earth where all these rubbish can be recycled. We will make some useful things out of it 

and it will not have the negative impact on the natural environment. 

Using her superpower Plastic Destroyer made a huge plastic sphere out of the rubbish, she lift up in the air and flew away to look for recycling centre.

The rest of the eco-heroes decided to continue their mission. They stood up and walked deeply into the forest ...

        "Deforestation story

           The cry of the forest"

The Eco-heroes walked deeper and deeper into the forest. Suddenly, they felt fear and sadness in their hearts.

-Guys, are you hungry? Let's go on a picnic in the forest, - offered Clean Girl.

-Yes we need to rest - said Aquarius. 

Forest Lover looked around and sighed - What a pity it is to destroy our forests. They give us oxygen and life.

When they reached a clearing, they were shocked. Many trees were burnt and black because of wildfires. Others were freshly cut down to make space for new buildings and roads. The ground was dry, the plants were withered and rubbish was lying everywhere.

There was no shade to sit under.

-Look! All trees are burnt and cut down. Where will we sit to eat? - asked Plastic Destroyer.

- The mountains are dark because of smoke and the air is poisoned - said Aquarius.

- The birds are sad and the animals are hungry and terrified - added Clean Girl - Some animals even died because they ate rubbish.

The superheroes felt tired and heartbroken.

 - People burn forests by accident or carelessness and they cut trees for construction without thinking about nature - said Forest Lover - This must stop. Enough is enough! - he continued - All of us can help. Together we can save this forest.

They made a plan:

- I will plant seeds and grow trees - said Forest Lover

- I will water the trees and plants - said Aquarius.

- I will remove the burnt roots and clean the forest - said Clean Girl.

- And I will destroy and collect all the plastic rubbish - said Plastic Destroyer.

They began working at once. Forest Lover planted many fast-growing seeds. Aquarius watered the dry soil and polluted lakes. Clean Girl removed the burnt roots and cleaned the rubbish from the ground. Plastic Destroyer gathered all the plastic waste and destroyed it so it could be recycled. 

Slowly the forest started to change. Green shoots appeared. New trees grew. The air became fresher and cleaner. 

The birds started singing again. The animals found clean water and safe places to live.

- The forest is fine again - said Clean Girl happily.

The Eco-heroes felt happy, pleased and proud.

- We are very strong together - said Aquarius.

- We always have plenty of good ideas - added Plastic Destroyer.

Forest Lover planted even more trees and soon there was a shade again. The superheroes sat under the young trees and finally had their picnic. They ate, drank clean water and ejoyed the fresh air.

After the picnic, they decided to clean the forest even more. They saw some rubbish left behind and realized it would take time but they did not give up.

This bad condition of the forest happened because people threw rubbish without a second thought - said Clean Girl.

- And because they cut down trees to build houses and roads and wildfires burnt many others - added Forest Lover.

When their work was done the forest looked alive, green and peaceful again. The superheroes sat down smiling.

- We managed to save the forest - they said proudly.

          Chapter 3

              "Water crisis"

The four heroes came out of the forest and went to a nearby lake. There they saw that the water level was very low. There was very little water. 

Then they saw animals going to drink water, but they left sad and thirsty. They learned that many animals died in the area because there was no water.
The heroes felt very sad about what they saw.

-We must see why there is no water in the lakes and rivers - said Aquarius.

They all agreed and flew far away to a city.
They wanted to see what the people in the city do with water. From above, they saw many broken pipes in the streets, and the water was running like a river.

-We must do something about this - they all said together.
They decided to act at night.
When the city was sleeping, they started their work.

Plastic Destroyer took the broken plastic pipes and sent them for recycling. At the same time, he put new strong and eco-friendly pipes so the water could go safely to the city.
