Once, a long time ago, lived a prince and a princess named
Phil and Mathilda. They were quite happy, but something had
troubled the queen for a while. When the time came for her
first-born to take a breath of the fresh kingdom air, a strange
man was to take the child away. The kingdom folk told her to
stop worrying about it, but just as she forgot, Mathilda had given
birth to a girl. The man came to take her away, but the princess
guessed his name right. They said he had died a horrible death,
with one foot into the ground, body splitting in half. Some
people, though, believe that he is still alive, looking after the
princess’s daughter. That would be me.

“Audree, never go into the woods,” my mother said, just as she was headed for
war.
“Mother, you mustn’t worry. And you shouldn’t tell me so every day.”
Mother nodded and was quickly escorted out of the castle. She seemed
especially worried today, as if something great would happen. I had suspected it
was the war, but now I had second thoughts.
As I was heading towards my room, I had noticed that there were twice the
amount of guards there usually are. My suspicion arose as I had went into my
room. It is overlooking luscious forests of thick, thick greens. But today, the air
was thick with a purple-ish mist of some sort. Ravens were also circling the
castle.
As the smoke grew immensely and came into my room as well, two armed
knights took me by the hands and thrust me into a carriage. The tower bell rang
furiously, and armies of demons were at the castle gates, carrying one giant
throne with a man sitting on it. He fit the definition of Rumpelstiltskin very well,
and that made me quite scared. He must be here for me...I thought.

“Audree” one of the knights said to me, “ run as fast as you can into the woods.
Even if you’re tired, just RUN.”
“But mother said-”
“There’s no time,” the other stepped in ,” your mother is likely dead by now
anyways. Just continue running!”
I was practically shoved out the carriage and started running, but my heels kept
digging into the Earth. Stupid heels, I muttered to myself as I threw them off my
feet and continued running. My breath was running out quickly, as I was not used
to running very much. My feet were glazed with fresh dirt, and my dress ripped
quickly because of the thorns, twigs, and bushes everywhere.
Nobody was behind me, and I felt like my heart was on the brink of collapsing,
so for a while I decided to take a break. Although, I must have passed out for a
long time, because when I woke up, the demons were visible in the near distance,
so I decided to pick up my pace, but it required twice the energy, and I could not
provide that.
As my balance grew shakier, I tripped and was sent flying, but very surprisingly,
never actually fell down. Instead, as I opened my eyes, surrounding me were
concrete buildings, but a lonely town, and a little screaming girl with a basket full
of things.

“WHERE IS GRANDMOTHER!?” she screamed to me.
“Grandmother? What grandmother? Your grandmother?” I asked her, confused.
“Yes but mother told me not to talk to strangers or to stray off my path in the-"
“Forest,” we were both silent for a moment, but the girl could not keep calm, so she took
me by the hand and we started running. And just as quickly we bumped into a forest
maiden. Her hair black as ebony, skin as white and snow, and lips as red as blood.
“Move,” she commanded,” I have places to be.”
The little red-hooded girl grabbed the forest maiden’s cape, and slowed her down,” you’re
not going ANYWHERE. Instead, you’ll help me find my grandma. I already got chased by a
wolf, I don’t need other distractions.”
So then we started walking faster and faster, but the street seemed to have no end. At
the end, a huge dark mansion could be seen. But no matter what we did, the street just
seemed to be getting longer.
“This can’t be happening,” I then say and look around. There are only tall buildings
surrounding, so I climb one of them. The view is very clear, about 27 buildings in the way of
the mansion. The other two girls quickly climb the same building.
“We could jump from building to building,” the forest maiden says.
“I have short legs. I can’t do that,” Little Red rolls her eyes at the forest maiden.
“Well, I don’t do this often, but let me carry you,” the maiden suggests and Little Red
climbs on top of her back.
We then reach the dark mansion. There’s a rose fence in the way, but a prince is talking
to an old man. The prince then rushes to get through the fence, and he climbs it instead.
The thorns covering the mansion turn to roses as he passes and then back to thorns.
