William HartsfieldBorn in 1890, Died in 1970
He was one of the best mayors in
Atlanta, he served six terms. That is
longer than any other person in the
history of mayors. He made a campaign
against segregation. It said, "The City Is
Too Busy To Hate!"



He was born on September 30th, 1915 in
Atlanta Georgia. From a family that was a
working-class, he knew of poverty. He was
also a segregationist while he was a restaurant
owner. Something that surprised the state of
Georgia when he became Governor was that
he hired 8 black officials.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a very
important civil rights activist. He made
many speeches on behalf of the black
community. His words will be forever
remembered, may he rest in peace.


Maynard JacksonBorn in 1938, died in 2003
He was the first African American mayor of
Atlanta, who is elected in 1973. He served
eight years in office, three terms. He worked
closely with Andrew Young, who organized the
Atlanta Olympics.


Hamilton HolmesBorn on July 8th, 1941 in Atlanta
He was born to an Atlanta businessman and a
school teacher. He was the valedictorian in his
high school. Holmes was one of the first
African Americans to enroll to UGA.


Chayrlne HunterBorn on February 27, 1942 in Due West, South
Carolina
She was the oldest child in her family. Her
family because her dad was in the army. She
was also one of the first to enroll to UGA.


Brown vs Board of EducationIn Topeka,Kansas, a black third grader named
Linda Brown had to walk a mile to go to her all
black elementary school. Her dad had tried to
enroll her into a white elementary school that
was only 7 blocks away. The principal denied
the enrollment. NAACP thought this was not
right and filed a complaint. The cased reached
all the way to the supreme court. In the end,
the Brown's won and the nation had to start
integrating school. The case date was June 25-
26, 1951.
