Once upon a time there
was a girl who was born to
the governor of Wisconsin.
He was once married to a
very beautiful women, but
she died very young. The
mother died of heart
disease, and on her death
bed she said to her
daughter, Emily, be good
dear girl, all my love to
you.

Emma’s father would eventually remarry. The
stepmother had two daughters of her own, they were
pretty, but nothing compared to the beauty of Emily.

The stepmother made Emily move out to a farm. Emily’s
father had to go away, being the governor, and as soon
as he left the nice lady the stepmother had seemed to
be disappeared.

She made Emily do all
the work in the house,
and on the farm.
When the rest of the
family would go to
Packer games her
stepmother made her
stay home and milk
the cows. Sometimes
her father would come
home and he brought
cheese head hats back
for his daughter.

One day Emily spoke to the cows, and to her surprise they
spoke back.
“One day Emily, you will show the world how amazing you
are and those terrible relatives of yours will perish.”
Remarked one of the cows.
“Yes!” Chimed in the American robins.
Her mother had told her to be good, therefore Emily did
everything that her stepmother and step sisters told her to.
Emily had grown fond of the cows on the farm and loved to
go outside and take care of them. Also, when she did
housework the birds would sing with her. All of this brought
joy to her heart.

It became summer, and the state fair near Milwaukee,
Wisconsin began. Emily’s father was going to take the entire
family to the fair, but Emily’s stepmother said that somebody
had to stay home, and Emily was lazy, so it should be her to
stay home.

Emily had been
good and kind all of
her life, so she
settled for staying,
until that night. She
went to the barn
and wept.

The animals were worried, and when they heard what was wrong they told Emily that
they knew of someone who could help. So, the cows and birds called upon a firefly.
“Why, a firefly certainly won’t help.” said Emily.
But then, the firefly turned into fairy right before Emily’s eyes.
“You wish to go to the fair?”
“Yes!” replied Emily
“Well then, that is easy enough.”
Emily was given all new clothes.
“Thank you so much!” cried Emily.
“Of course my darling!”

The fairy became a firefly again. Emily was overjoyed,
but then realized that her family would recognize her.
She ran inside and grabbed a cheese head hat, that only
fit her, and she put hair up in it.
