Let's learn the meaning and story behind our names.

Name of the School: 1rst kindergarten of Gargalianoi
Name of the Teacher: Maria Aggeliki Petropoulou
ACHILLES
Means: The one who causes pain to the enemy, i.e. he is very strong. This name belonged to a very strong ancient Greek hero who fought in the Trojan War. His name became a symbol of bravery and shows that everyone has strengths and weaknesses in their character. My parents gave me this name because I was born prematurely but I was as brave as the brave Achilles of Greek mythology!
MYRTLE
Means: Beauty and freshness as the myrtle is a fragrant plant with white flowers that adorn the bride's head at their wedding. Also, this name means love and protection because it was the favorite plant of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Christ in Christianity, who protects everyone. My parents decided to give me this name because they considered it unique and special, just as I am special and distinct to them.
ARIS
Means: the excellent, the capable, the virtuous. All these virtues were possessed by Saint Aris, a faithful Christian. Aris, however, was also the name of the god of war in Ancient Greece, so this name is also a symbol of strength. My parents gave me this name to "endow" me with all the virtues that this name carries.
Name of the School: 1rst kindergarten of Gargalianoi
Name of the Teacher: Maria Aggeliki Petropoulou
KATERINA
It means: cleanliness and purity and whoever has it is considered to be a good and honest person. My grandmother's name is also Katerina and my parents wanted to honor her by giving me that name.
DESPOINA
Meaning: It is of Greek origin and means "lady", "mistress" or "mistress of the house". It is also one of the nicknames of the Virgin Mary in Christianity because it shows respect and dignity.
I got this name because my mom found out she was pregnant when the Virgin Mary was celebrated and she promised to give me her name.
NICHOLAS
Means: the victor of the peoples. It is the name of a Christian saint who protects children, pharmacists, but most importantly, sailors, as, according to a story, he saved the ship he was traveling on from sinking and calmed the sea. My dad's dad has the same name and my parents honored him by naming me after him.
NADKA
Meaning: It is an old Bulgarian name that comes from the name Nadezhda and means "I give hope" for something. This name is my grandmother's and my great-grandmother had it too.
Name of the School: 1rst kindergarten of Gargalianoi
Name of the Teacher: Maria Aggeliki Petropoulou
GEORGIA
Means: the one who cultivates, loves and takes care of the land. I got the name from my mom's dad who I love very much!
HELEN
Means: bright and luminous and comes from the word "moon". There is also a constellation with the same name! Two very important women had the same name. In ancient Greece there was Helen the Beautiful, the most beautiful woman of antiquity, for whose sake the Trojan War took place. But there was also Saint Helen who, together with her son Saint Constantine, found the cross on which Christ had been crucified. No one knew what they would name me. Everyone learned that I would be given this name during my baptism by my godfather.
DEMETRA
Means: Mother of the Earth as it comes from the Goddess Demeter of antiquity who was the goddess of fertility, agriculture and food. She also had her daughter Persephone who was stolen by the god of the Underworld. So, she lived 6 months with her mother and then Goddess Demeter was happy and brought summer and spring to the Earth. When she lived with her husband in the Underworld, the Goddess Demeter was very sad and brought winter and autumn to Earth.
My grandmother, whom I love very much, also has this name.
Name of the School: 1rst kindergarten of Gargalianoi
Name of the Teacher: Maria Aggeliki Petropoulou
ANTHI
Means: blossom, flower, bloom and youth. My grandmother also has this beautiful name and my parents wanted to honor her by naming me after her.
GEORGE
Meaning: It has Greek roots and means "he who cultivates the Earth". In ancient times, this name was the nickname of Zeus, the king of the ancient Gods. However, I got my name from Saint George who, with great strength to Christ, saved a princess from a terrible dragon.
My beloved grandfather is also called George.
PETER
Means: "stone", that is, rock and stability. In the past, Christ named his disciple Simon this way, wanting to tell him that he would be the one who would found Christianity.
PANAGIOTIS
Means: the absolutely holy one, just like the Virgin Mary, from whom this name comes. Many men and boys in Greece have it. My beloved grandfather has it too.
PARID
Means: the first, the best. It reflects the desire for a person who stands out, is ambitious and independent. It is an Albanian name given to boys. My parents liked it very much and that is why they named me that.
Name of the School: 1rst Kindergarten of Gargalianoi
Name of the Teacher: Panagiota Skouteri
Katerina: The idea for this name came from my dad and mom, to honor my grandmother, who had the same name as me. According to tradition, the feast of Saint Catherine coincides with the sowing of the farmers in our country. They have associated it with good sowing. In fact, in case of drought, the saint “borrows water” from another saint to make it rain.
Loukas – Savvas: The name Loukas was given to me by my dad and mom, out of tradition because that was the name of my grandfather, my dad’s dad. The name Savvas was the same as my grandfather’s, who was born in Cyprus, but my mom’s mom was also born on Saint Savvas’s day. My family considered it important that both families had a history with this name.
Name of the School: 1rst Kindergarten of Gargalianoi
Name of the Teacher: Panagiota Skouteri
Pantelis: My dad and mom had the same idea about the name. I took my grandfather's name and now that he's passed away, when they call me, we remember Grandpa Pantelis.
Irene: My mom and dad had the same idea, that I take the name of my grandmother Irene, who is my mom's mom. This name symbolizes the peace that we want the whole world to have, the tranquility and peace.
In ancient times, Irene was a deity, one of the hours and symbolized prosperity and peace.
Brian: The name Brian is a classic Irish name that was given to one of the kings of Ireland. It means "strong".
Name of the School: 1rst Kindergarten of Gargalianoi
Name of the Teacher: Panagiota Skouteri
George- Panagiotis: My parents tried very hard to have me. My dad went to the church of St. George and begged the saint to give them a child. After a while, he had a dream. that he was at the baptism of his child and that this child was baptized George. A little while later, my mom got pregnant with me. When a problem occurred during the pregnancy, my mom also had a dream, with calm waters and a chapel of Panagia Gorgopigi and she felt that everything would be fine.
So my parents decided to name me George after St. George and Panagiotis after Panagia Gorgopigi. My name is dedicated to them and I love them very much
Name of the School: 1rst Kindergarten of Gargalianoi
Name of the Teacher: Panagiota Skouteri
Lucas G: the idea for the name came from my aunt. The name Lucas is from Argentina. Lou means “light” and from there “light of my life”. I think it suits me.
Loukas P.: I took my grandfather's name but also because my parents liked it as a name. So my grandfather was happy and so were we.
Name of the School: 1st Kindergarten of Gargalianoi
Name of the Teacher: Stavroula Katsantoni
Ourania/Rania: The idea for my name came from my dad. He named me this way because the same name belongs to my grandmother, my mother’s mother. My name reminds me of the sky and makes me feel happy.
Androniki: My name was given in honor of my maternal grandmother, with the purpose of preserving the family tradition and the bond between generations. The name Androniki comes from the words “man” and “victory.” It is interpreted as “she who brings victory to men” and is the feminine form of the male name Andronikos.
Ntina: My mother chose the name so that it would start with the letters Nt, just like the names of my parents Ntumitritsa and Ntokymitrou. The name Ntina has Hebrew and Arabic roots. It means “judgment” or “justice.”
Name of the School: 1st Kindergarten of Gargalianoi
Name of the Teacher: Stavroula Katsantoni
Dionysis: My name describes the significance of preserving family tradition through naming. I received the name from my grandfather as a sign of respect and admiration for my father. This name has been passed from father to son for seven generations, symbolizing the strong bond between them. For the family, the name represents a connection to their roots and history, not just a personal choice. Dionysis name day is on December 17, the feast day of Saint Dionysius of Zakynthos.
Dionysia: I received the name from my grandmother, Dionysia/Soula, who is my mother’s mother. I love my grandmother very much and consider her the best.
Name of the School:51st Kindergarten of Heraklion
Name of the Teacher: Aimilia Katraki
Katerina:We chose the name Aikaterini for our child because that is her grandmother's name. In Greece, it is our custom to give our children the names of our parents or grandparents, so that we may honor previous generations and keep our family history alive. In this way, we show respect to the people who raised us and pass their values on to our children!
Sofianna:My parents chose my names: Sofia and Anna. The first name, Sofia, comes from my paternal grandmother, and the name Anna from my maternal grandmother. They put them together and created: SOFIANNA. I feel very happy and proud to have this family. I love my family very much, as well as my names and myself. I am very proud of my family.
Name of the School:51st Kindergarten of Heraklion
Name of the Teacher: Aimilia Katraki
Dimitra:They call me Dimitra in honor of my grandfather, who is no longer with us. When we call out your name, you remind us of him, and at the same time, we wish for you to live many years with love and happiness.
Vasilis: Our child's name is Vasilis. It was chosen by following the strong Greek tradition, which dictates that the second child takes the name of the second grandfather from the mother's side, thus continuing the heritage of both families equally. The connection with the grandfather became even more meaningful when we discovered that the little one has inherited the same eyes.
Name of the School:51st Kindergarten of Heraklion
Name of the Teacher: Aimilia Katraki
Dimitris: The name Dimitris was chosen because that was his grandfather's name. When we learned we were expecting a boy, we initially decided to give him this name to honor his grandfather, who was no longer living. Furthermore, we both liked the name. The name comes from the ancient Greek name Demeter and means "he who is dedicated to the goddess Demeter." Additionally, the name suits him because our Dimitris is:
Dinatos (Strong)
Hchiros (Resonant/Loud)
Monadikos (Unique)
Isychos (Quiet/Calm)
Tryferos (Tender)
Romantikos (Romantic)
Ithikos (Ethical)
Sympathitikos (Likable/Kind)
Name of the School:51st Kindergarten of Heraklion
Name of the Teacher: Aimilia Katraki
Myronas:
Myronas–Ioannis has two names, and this happened from the moment I decided to have a baby.
Almost every Sunday we visited the church of Saint Myron in the area of the same name. From the very first moment, I felt he was a Saint who listened to me. So I prayed to him to bless me with a child, and that happened quite quickly. When it did, my first thought was that he would take the name of the Saint whom I was sure had helped me, and that he would be baptized in that church. Everything went well, and I was certain that for this reason it would be a boy — and I was right.
Ioannis is the name of Myronas’ grandfather on his father’s side, and also of Saint John the Russian, protector of young boys.
So he has two names, for two Saints we love very much.
Name of the School:51t Kindergarten of Heraklion
Name of the Teacher: Aimilia Katraki
Marios:
Marios has two siblings, Eleni and Dimitris. When I was pregnant with Marios, Dimitris was a big fan of Super Mario. After we found out we were expecting a boy, we started thinking about what name to give him. We had already honored both families (grandparents), so we wanted a name we simply liked. We suggested various names, and Dimitris kept saying, “Let’s call him Super Mario!” — for four whole months!
At some point, we decided to name him Marios because during my first pregnancy we had planned to name his sister Maria Eleni. However, the priest did not allow two names; he wanted only one, so she ended up being named Eleni, after her grandmother. So the name of the Virgin Mary was still “pending,” and perhaps his brother’s persistence was the reminder we needed to decide.
Name of the School:51st Kindergarten of Heraklion
Name of the Teacher: Aimilia Katraki
Angeliki:
We chose the name Angeliki for our daughter because that is my husband’s mother’s name. In our family, there is a tradition that the first child takes the name from the father’s side, and we decided to continue it.
For us, this name has great emotional value because it connects our child with our family and our roots. In fact, my parents followed the same tradition with me, so it felt very natural to us.
We are happy that our daughter has this name and hope she will love it as much as we do.
Name of the School:51st Kindergarten of Heraklion
Name of the Teacher: Aimilia Katraki
Chara:
We chose the name Chara ourselves, it did not traditionally come from a grandmother as is usually the case. It was a difficult process with mixed emotions because we did not easily agree with her father. I also did not want my child to have a rare name that might make her feel uncomfortable later in life.
We chose this one, and we are happy because she likes it and we think it suits her. That was the story behind our Chara’s name.
Dion:We chose the name Dion because we liked it. It’s short and starts with the letter N, just like his dad’s and his sister’s names.
Name of the School:51st Kindergarten of Heraklion
Name of the Teacher: Aimilia Katraki
Jasemi:
“Whether it is night or day,
the jasmine remains white.”
— George Seferis
The choice of your name has two meanings.
The first is the obvious one: following Greek tradition and customs, you were named after your grandmother, Jasemi.
The second meaning was revealed when we first saw you. Your velvety complexion, beauty, purity, innocence, delicacy, elegance, and tenderness — a fragile flower in our hands with the strongest fragrance, a scent that carries you away and intoxicates you.
We wondered… Did you carry all these qualities because you already had your name, or did the jasmine flower receive all these graces from you? Was it always such a wonderful and delicate flower?
And it wasn’t only our first meeting that triumphantly justified this second meaning. It is you, every day, who keeps blooming more and more.
Your mom and dad —
Lovers of your fragrance.
Name of the School:51st Kindergarten of Heraklion
Name of the Teacher: Aimilia Katraki
Mirela:The name we decided to give our child required a lot of thought because we didn’t want something common but something that would represent her. Since there is a custom here for children to take their grandmothers’ names, and since the grandmothers both had the very common name “Maria,” we heard a song on the radio called “Mirela.” We immediately said, “That’s the name we’ll give her!” It is synonymous with “Maria,” and since we liked the sound and the song, the choice felt perfect.
Katia:My name is Katia. I got my name from my grandmother, Katerina,as is costumary in our family,to honor our grandparents for the love they have given us and the sacrifices they have made for us. My name is diminutive of Aikaterini and is full of love and beautiful memories.
Name of the School:51st Kindergarten of Heraklion
Name of the Teacher: Aimilia Katraki
Michael:My name is Michael, and it is connected with courage and determination, just as Archangel Michael symbolizes the defender of good. My name gives the sense of a reliable, steady, and brave person who stands strong in difficulties. So I was named Michail for all these reasons — but the most important is that my grandparents share this name.
Semina:
“The name my godfather Marinos gave me is Gethsemane, but my mother and father decided to call me Semina! So all my relatives, friends, and acquaintances call me Semina.
I got my name from my grandmother, Gethsemane, my father’s mother. Gethsemane is a location at the foot of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, known as the garden where Jesus prayed before his arrest. It means ‘oil press,’ as the area was full of olive groves and oil-producing places, and it is celebrated on August 15.”
Name of the School:51st Kindergarten of Heraklion
Name of the Teacher: Aimilia Katraki
Thomas:
Our child’s name was chosen based on connection to family and tradition.
The name Thomas comes from his grandfather, Thomas. It acts as a bridge to the past and honors our grandfather, strengthening the sense of belonging to a family.
The name Thomas comes from the Aramaic “Te’oma” and means “twin.”
Victoras:
Our child’s name is Viktoras.
When we found out he was a boy, the first thing we did was look for a name. It was clear to both of us that we would not give him the name of a grandfather who was no longer alive. We wanted our son’s name to be unique in our families.
We were between two names: Viktoras and Nestoras. We chose Viktoras because it sounded better to us and he would also be able to celebrate a name day.
Name of the School:51st Kindergarten of Heraklion
Name of the Teacher: Aimilia Katrki
Panagiotis:
Your name, Panagiotis, was not given to you by chance.
We prayed every day to the Virgin Mary during a very difficult period of the pregnancy, when there were serious complications. During those difficult times, my faith and our hope in the help of the Virgin Mary gave us strength, courage, and positive thoughts.
When you were finally born healthy and nothing happened from all that the doctors had told us might happen, we felt deep gratitude and kept our promise — and so we gave you the name Panagiotis.
For me, this name is not just a name. It is a symbol of faith, hope, strength, and gratitude, but also a reminder not to forget the difficult journey we went through — a journey that ended in a great gift of life. Our Panagioti!

Pantelis
“The name Pantelis comes from my late father-in-law. He was 69 years old. About a month after his death, we found out that I was pregnant. So we gave our child his name. My father-in-law was a police officer, and Pantelis tells us that when he grows up, he wants to become a police officer too.”
Antigoni-Maria
“My name is Antigoni-Maria. My parents gave me the name Antigoni and chose it because that is my grandmother’s name—my father’s mother—and because my dad loves her very much. He wanted me to have the same name because they love me just as much, and even more!
My other name, Maria, I received from my beloved Panagia, so that she would protect me and keep me well.”
Emmanouil
“The child’s name was a joint decision. We had decided on it in advance, even before finding out the baby’s gender, in case it was a boy. The reasons we chose this name are two: religious significance and tradition. The meaning of the name is “friend of Christ,” and it is also the original name of Jesus Christ. Traditionally, he has taken his grandfather’s name (from his father’s side), which we wanted to honor, as the name is passed from grandfather to grandson. Our feelings about this name are very strong. Above all, we feel blessed, because Emmanouil is our miracle; pride in continuing the tradition; and deep love, joy, and affection.”
Name of the School: 2nd Kindergarten of Moires, Greece
Name of the Teacher: Dimitra Dermitzaki
Eva
“Eva’s name (Evangelia) was given to honor her grandmother (my mother) for her contribution and her selfless help in our daily lives.
It was especially important to her, as she has five grandchildren, of whom Eva is the youngest—and the fourth—and the only girl, so there hadn’t been an earlier opportunity for a grandchild to inherit her name. The fact that Eva and her grandmother share the same name makes Eva feel that there is something extra that connects them.”
Giannis St.
“Giannis has the name of his uncle Giannis, his father’s brother who he loves very much!”
Venizelos-Kosmas
“He was given his name after his grandfather, Venizelos—his father’s father. According to an old local tradition, people used to give children the name Venizelos to honor the great Greek politician Eleftherios Venizelos, as was done in the case of our grandfather. In turn, we also gave this name to our child to honor our grandfather.
His second name, Kosmas, was given after Saint Kosmas the Hermit of Koudoumas, so that he would have a saint as his protector.”
Dimitris
“Dimitris was named after his grandfather, Dimitris—his father’s father.”
Name of the School: 2nd Kindergarten of Moires, Greece
Name of the Teacher: Dimitra Dermitzaki
Maria D.
“The name we gave our daughter is Maria, and it is doubly symbolic for us.
On the one hand, both of her grandmothers share this name, and it was very important for us to honor both women, who are a source of support and a role model in our lives.
On the other hand, our little Maria, as our first child, brought light and hope into our lives—just as the Virgin Mary has brought light and hope to our souls. So our little Maria received a name that is doubly symbolic and doubly blessed—she carries the warmth and embrace of our two mothers, as well as the strength and blessing of the Holy Mother.”
Maria S.
“Her name, Maria, was given to her after her grandmother. We made this decision because we believe that in this way we honor her grandmother and give back the love she offers to us.”
Giannis Z.
"We chose the name Giannis with a lot of love, as it is the name of his grandfather. We wanted to honor a man who was a support for the whole family, with values, kindness, and strength. It’s a way for the story and love to continue from generation to generation, so our little Giannis can grow up knowing his roots and feeling proud of his name."
Name of the School: 2nd Kindergarten of Moires, Greece
Name of the Teacher: Dimitra Dermitzaki
Giorgos
"George has been named after his grandfather, the father of his father. This is a tradition that generally exists in Greece, where children are given the names of their grandparents. In this way, we show our love, honor, and respect for the elders of the family and keep the tradition alive."
Maria M.
"Maria got her name from her two grandmothers, who happen to have the same name. For this reason, we decided to follow the tradition and honor our mothers, who provide our child with care, love, and affection."
Michalis (Michail)
"Michalis was born a day before the feast of Archangel Michael. They also call his grandfather Michalis. So we decided to give him this name. In our search, we learned that it is of Hebrew origin and means 'Who is like God?' (from the phrase Mi-ka-El). Mi: Who? ka: Like / Similar to El: God."
Zoe
“Our Zoe was born at 6 months on 04/03/2021. She weighed 1,100 grams. I didn’t get to hold her because I was under general anesthesia. She faced many difficulties in the incubator and didn’t gain weight during the first weeks. We wanted to give her one of the Virgin Mary’s names. So we felt it was a sign that she came out of the incubator two months later, on the feast day of Zoodochos Pigi. That’s why we named her Zoe.”
Name of the School: 2nd Kindergarten of Moires, Greece
Name of the Teacher: Dimitra Dermitzaki
Vaggelis
“Vaggelis was named after his grandfather, a man who was very important and dearly loved by our whole family. In our family, we have the tradition of giving children their grandparents’ names as a sign of honor, respect, and love.”
Maria T.
“In our family, choosing a name for our first child was a one-way street. Both of our child’s grandmothers are named Maria. This name may be the most common one, but to us it sounds special and unique, because it is simple and directly connected to two mothers who adore their children and grandchildren. That’s why we never wanted to call her by any diminutive of her name — we wanted it to be heard in its full form.”
Konstantina
“She was named after her grandfather on her mother’s side. When her dad and I first started making plans for our family, we imagined having three children. So when Konstantina was born, her dad and I decided to give her my father’s name, so that if our third child were a boy, he could take the other grandfather’s name. We love her name because it connects her directly to the grandfather she is especially close to, and it is as special as she is. She also shares the same name as her godfather.”
Marina
“We chose the name Marina because we had made a vow to Saint Marina. For us, it holds great emotional value, as it symbolizes our faith, hope, and gratitude.”
Name of the School: 2nd Kindergarten of Moires, Greece
Name of the Teacher: Dimitra Dermitzaki
Iasonas
“His sister chose his name. Among three other names we had written down, she picked this one because it starts with the letter “I,” just like hers. “So we can match — like siblings,” as she used to say.”
Maria-Ilia
“Our child’s name has a double meaning. The first name, Maria, is to honor her grandmother, who has the same name, and also the Virgin Mary, so that she may protect her. The second name, Ilia, is because she is the brightest creature in the world — like our sun.”
Marievi
“The name Marievi is made up of two names: Maria and Evangelia.
Maria: the name of the Virgin Mary, the mother of all. Marievi was dedicated to the Virgin Mary because of difficulties in conceiving and in hopes of giving birth to a healthy child.
Evangelia: the name of Marievi’s grandmother, her father’s mother, given out of respect for her.”

However, my parents wanted her to be always present in my life in some way. They chose the name Konstantinos so that they could celebrate together and remember her forever through me. Every time we hear my name, we feel that a part of her lives with us and fills us with strength and love.

ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΣ Τ.
ris was a goddess and messenger of the gods. She carried the messages of Hera and traveled quickly from heaven to earth. It is said that wherever she passed, she left behind a colorful path, the rainbow! That is why her name is associated with colors, joy and hope. Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ. She is considered a symbol of love, humility and kindness. Christians respect and honor her greatly, because she showed great faith and strength. Her name is one of the most beloved and widespread in the world. Iris Maria is a name full of light and tenderness. Iris, like the rainbow, brings color, joy and hope wherever she is, while Maria adds kindness, strength and love. Together they create a beautifulcombination that symbolizes a child full of dreams, smiles and a warm heart!

1-DENİZ : My mom, dad, and sister were thinking of a name for me together. When my sister was in kindergarten, one of her favorite friends was named Deniz. My sister asked my mom and dad, “Please let my sister's name be Deniz, okay?”
The meaning of the name also gave them a peaceful feeling. My parents loved both the name and the idea, so they named me Deniz.
That's the story of my name.
2-GÜLEN: We chose the name Gülen because it was my grandmother's name and it has a beautiful meaning. I think it's important for children's names to be easy to pronounce and not too long. We didn't choose two names because when addressing children, it seems to me that everyone saying different names creates confusion. Gülen carries the meaning of her name, I think her friends and teachers always remember her with her smile. I hope her smiling face and cheerfulness always remain that way.

3-ALİ BİRKAN: Even before I had a child, I always loved the name Ali. I saw it as a traditional but timeless name, and if I ever had a son, it was a name I wanted to give him. His father also has two names, one more traditional and the other more modern, so he wanted to do the same for our son. Since Ali is a short name, we looked for a second name in case he didn't want to use a traditional name in the future. Birkan is a name we don't hear very often, it's modern, and it sounds nice when said together with Ali, so it really appealed to us.
As a result, Ali Birkan is a name chosen for us with love; it is a combination of two names, one chosen by his mother and one by his father. We hope that whichever name he uses, he will walk through life with love, courage, and most importantly, his own stance:)))
4-ZEKİ CAN: The name CAN means life, living, sincerity, and fullness of life.
The name ZEKİ means intelligent, knowledgeable, and understanding.
Zeki is also his father's name. We chose the name Zeki, hoping that Can would be as loving and knowledgeable as his father :)

5-LİNA: We started thinking about her name before Lina was born. We wanted a name that felt right, had a beautiful meaning, and was soft to say. One day we heard the name “Lina”...
“Lina” felt like both an elegant and powerful name. While it has many meanings, what affected us most was that it represents the olive wreath. In ancient Greece, it was a crown made from olive branches or leaves, awarded to winners in the Olympic Games…
We named our daughter Lina, hoping that this beautiful gift, which is now part of our family, would be as fruitful and deeply rooted in our lives as an olive tree.
6-DURU Ç.: The meaning of Duru is clear and pure, with a simple pronunciation that is easy to say. We chose it because it is a beautiful name that will not cause her any trouble in later years, is easy to spell, and is timeless.

7-DURU G.: Duru was a gift given to us as the second daughter of our family.
After learning her gender and searching for a name,
we decided to name her Duru because it reminded us of clarity, purity, and a sparkling heart.
As Duru grew up, her name became her character. She became a child who easily expresses her feelings, warms our hearts with her smile, and has a pure, crystal-clear heart.
May the light in your heart never fade, my Duru girl. Stay pure and clear like your name
8-NİL: We chose the name Nil for our daughter because of its simplicity and powerful meaning.
The Nile, one of the world's most ancient rivers, is a symbol of life, fertility, and continuity wherever it flows. We envisioned our daughter bringing joy to those around her throughout her life and charting her own course with determination and grace, like a river.

9-KEMAL T.: We named our child Kemal because it is the name of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. We remember Atatürk with great love and respect and value the principles he represented.
We hope our son grows up to be an individual who, like Atatürk, approaches life with wisdom, thinks freely, is conscientious, and loves his country.
10-BUSE LENA: Her Mother's name is Burçin and her father's name is Serkan.
Buse is a word formed from the first letters of the names.
Buse means “kiss” in our language. We gave our daughter this name, which we believe represents love, with the wish that she will feel our love for her throughout her life.
Lena: We learned that this name has beautiful meanings in different languages.
In many languages, it means brightness, light, or shining.
We gave her this name with the wish that she never lose her light throughout her life, that her heart always shines with love, and that all the paths she walks are bright.

11- AYSU: When we were choosing a name for our daughter Aysu, we tried to select a name that held meaning for both her and us; that is why my wife, Zeynep, and I chose this name from among many others. We gave her this name with the hope that her life and future would be as bright as the moon and as clear as water.
12-EGE: When we were looking for a name, it was a name that both of us, as parents, liked at the same time and agreed on. We thought it was a simple yet powerful name. Plus, its association with the sea reminds us of peace and freedom. That’s why we chose the name Ege :)

13-SARP: Before Sarp was born, we threw a gender reveal party with our close friends. At the party, we asked our friends to guess our baby’s gender and write down the names they’d like to see. From the names suggested by those who guessed a boy and the names we had in mind, we selected the four we liked best. These were Sarp, Toprak, Teoman, and Ayaz. Since we liked them all so much, we couldn’t decide and decided to draw lots. After all, they were all names we wanted, and we thought it would be a beautiful outcome. The name Sarp came up in the draw, and we were able to choose a name that felt right to us with peace of mind.
The name Sarp carries the meanings of “steep” and “challenging,” and metaphorically represents a strong, determined, and brave personality. In our view, Sarp perfectly embodies his name through his character, which never gives up even when faced with difficulty, persists to the end without wavering once he sets his mind on something, and works hard to do what is right.
