Letters written by students to the characters from the play "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry.

Dragă Walter,

Scriu din viitor. Știu cât de mult te chinuie visul ăla de a fi om de afaceri și cât de tare te-a lovit eșecul cu banii lui Harris. A fost groaznic, dar nu e finalul.

Cel mai important lucru pe care trebuie să-l știi e că ai ales corect la final. Când i-ai spus lui Lindner că plecați, că nu vă vindeți onoarea pentru bani, acela a fost momentul tău. Ai ales familia în locul banilor pierduți.Mama ta a avut dreptate, dar și tu ai avut dreptate să lupți pentru mai mult. Ați găsit demnitatea împreună. Beneatha își urmează visul.

Nu uita cât de mult ai suferit. Folosește asta ca forță. Ai ales să fii un om onorabil. Asta contează.

Succes, Lrisa, un prieten din viitor.

Dear Walter, 

I'm writing from the future. I know how much that dream of being a businessman torments you, and how hard the failure with Harris' money hit you. It was terrible, but it's not the end. 

The most important thing for you to know is that you made the right choice in the end. When you told Lindner you were leaving, that you weren't selling your honor for money, that was your moment. You chose family over lost money. Your mother was right, but you were also right to fight for more. You found dignity together. Beneatha is following her dream. Don't forget how much you suffered. Use that as strength. You chose to be an honorable man. That's what matters.

 Îți scriu din viitor ca să îți spun că visele tale chiar contează. Chiar dacă oamenii se îndoiesc de tine sau îți spun să fii „realistă”, nu lăsa frica lor să îți limiteze drumul. Curiozitatea, puterea și dorința ta de a-i ajuta pe ceilalți te vor ghida spre o viață plină de sens.

 Vei întâmpina dificultăți, dar fiecare dintre ele te va face mai puternică. Continuă să crezi în visul tău de a deveni medic.  Lumea va avea nevoie de vocea, inteligența și compasiunea ta.

Rămâi curajoasă, continuă să pui întrebări și nu înceta niciodată să visezi.

Îți scriu din viitor. Știu că te zbați acum, căutându-ți identitatea între visul de a fi medic și chemarea culturii.

Vreau să știi ceva esențial: ești pe drumul cel bun.

Nu lăsa pe nimeni să-ți spună cine trebuie să fii sau ce drum să urmezi. Fie că alegi medicina sau arta, nu renunța la acea căutare arzătoare a sinelui.

Rădăcinile tale, nu banii , sunt forța ta. Fii neînfricată. Fii curioasă. Refuză să fii asimilat de dragul confortului. Fii rebelă. Fii tu însăți!

Αγαπημένη μου Μπενίθα,

Σου γράφω από το μέλλον, εκεί όπου οι «μικρές ήσυχες ελπίδες» έγιναν δυνατές φωνές. Θέλω να σου πω: μην σταματήσεις να ψάχνεις.

Είχες δίκιο που δεν συμβιβάστηκες. Το φυτό της Μαμάς επιβίωσε, και το ίδιο έκανες κι εσύ. Εκείνο το λευκό παλτό που ονειρευόσουν δεν ήταν απλώς μια στολή, αλλά η πανοπλία σου. Οι άνθρωποι θα σου πουν ότι ο κόσμος δεν αλλάζει, αλλά εγώ είδα τα μάτια των ασθενών μου στο Λάγος και στο Σικάγο, και σου υπόσχομαι πως η γνώση είναι η μόνη ελευθερία που δεν μπορούν να μας κλέψουν.

People will tell you that the world doesn't change, but I have seen the eyes of my patients in Lagos and Chicago, and I promise you that knowledge is the only freedom they cannot steal from us.
