Children are ready to start a new school day. Today they are going to celebrate Animals Day.

In the classroom, the teacher is asking students to talk about their pets. Ilaria is ready with her presentation.

Hello! This is my dog. I love him very much.
I would like to tell you his story.
We first met when he was a little puppy. Our neighbour who leaves close to our home had a dog with two puppies. He wanted to leave the puppies in a place far from home. When I heard, I started crying and ask mum to save them . I took one, my aunt another one.

At the beginning, the puppy was very small and a little scared in his new home. He followed me everywhere and slept next to my bed. The whole family welcomed him with love and took care of him every day. We gave him food, water and lots of hugs!

As he grew, the puppy became very playful and full of energy. He loved jumping on the sofa, running around the house, and sometimes chewing shoes or pillows! Even when he made small messes, everyone laughed because he was so cute. One day, something funny happened… and this is how a new adventure begins!

I went to the amusement park with my dad and our puppy, Zippy. I was very excited because I couldn’t wait to ride all the attractions. While we were buying cotton candy, my Zippy wandered off and ran away.
I started looking for him and finally spotted him on the merry-go-round… having the time of his life!

Suddenly, Zippy disappeared among the colourful lights, following the loud music and all the exciting sounds. I grew very worried and began searching for him everywhere. I walked through the park, calling his name loudly and asking people if they had seen him. Many visitors stopped to help…
But no one could find him.

As Zippy was walking around, he met a puppy with a bright red bandana. The dog barked happily, inviting him to play. Together they ran through the rides, chased after soap bubbles, and followed delicious smells.
Suddenly, he found himself in a strange, empty corner of the park... and the other dog was gone.
Zippy felt lonely and scared.

“Where did everyone go? I don’t like being all alone!”

A boy who was with his father in the amusement park told me everything. That is why I know .
He also has seen me running and asking about my dog. He told me the direction where Zippy ran away.

The next day I took the baby owl to the vet. It had a small wound on one of its wings. He suggested I could take care of it for a few days, but not too long. These birds need to be free. Maybe his mom is looking for her baby.
The three friends played together, ate together, and even slept together. To make sure that Bizu, the baby owl, didn't leave, I bought a cage. But one day, when I came back from school, I got a surprise...

I let the winged creature fly away.
Zippy was jumping up and down, as if he were trying to follow his flying friend.

There was an owl at the window of the house. I thought it was Bizu, but I was wrong. The visiting bird was larger; it could have been the mother. I went out into the yard with the two dogs and the baby owl.

The following morning, Zippy was getting ready for his very first visit to the veterinarian.
The whole family organized themselves so they could all go together to the veterinary clinic, where Zippy was going to receive his health record and his first vaccinations.
Everyone was extremely excited to learn as much as possible about the playful little one’s health.
Zippy was very well-behaved and calm, so he received a well-deserved reward from the veterinarian — a delicious, tasty bone.

When we got home, we decided that he also needed a name. After many rejected ideas, laughter, and strange suggestions, we finally chose Max. Max was curious, gentle, and always ready to help his friends. Exactly the kind of dog who would bring the ball back… but first check if you were okay.

From that day Max and Zippy were always together. Nothing or anybody could seperate them. They play together, going around together, sleep, even snoring at the same time, waking everyone around!

Given the situation, we decided to find out a hotel where we could leave the two dogs during our vacation.

The hotel provided all the necessary conditions for the two puppies to feel at home. They benefited from daily cleaning services, appropriately adapted food, a minimum of three to four walks or outings per day, opportunities for play and socialization, continuous supervision (including medical supervision when necessary), and proper heating.

While the family was in vacation...
A fire started in the dog hotel...

Max was wondering where Zippy was... Suddenly he heard something. It was Zippy. Was he trapped inside the hotel?
All the dogs came out of the hotel...except Zippy.

As soon as we heard about the fire at the animals hotel, my family and I returned from our holiday.

We talked to children and local volunteers and all together, rescued the dogs from the hotel that had caught fire. We succeeded in saving all the dogs and, within a few days, with the help of the community we rebuild the shelter, giving the dogs , a safe and welcoming place once again.

I had many adventures with my dog, but I never regret adopting him. He is my good friend, and he helps me a lot. I learned to be kind because he is kind to other dogs and animals. I was very proud of him when he was brave during the fire. I love him very much!

I have an idea to help animals and I need all of you to help me. I want to organize a small adoption fair right here in our school courtyard. What do you think? Will you help me?

Adoption fair

The classroom was quiet for a second. Then everyone started clapping. “That’s a wonderful idea!” said the teacher proudly. “Of course we will help.” In the next few weeks, the class worked together. They made colorful posters, invited volunteers and prepared the school courtyard for the adoption fair.

On the big day, many families came. Zippy and Max happily greeted the visitors, wagging their tails. Several dogs found loving homes and the shelter received food and donations. As I hugged my two brave dogs, I felt proud. I learned that even a small idea can change many lives when people work together.
