KEÇİKALESİ

The castle, located within the boundaries of Keçikalesi Town in the Altunhisar district of Niğde and situated directly opposite Mount Hasan, is estimated to have been built in 319 BC under the name “Keçikalesi Argos” in an area containing Roman and Byzantine remains, and it has managed to survive to the present day.

Niğde’nin Altunhisar ilçesine bağlı Keçikalesi Kasabası sınırları içerisinde yer alan, Hasan Dağı’nın tam karşısında bulunan kale; Roma ve Bizans dönemi kalıntılarının bulunduğu bölgede “Keçikalesi Argos” adıyla M.Ö. 319 yıllarında yapıldığı tahmin edilmekle birlikte günümüze kadar ayakta kalmayı başarmıştır.

                THE LEGEND OF KEÇİKALESİ

Keçikalesi is a castle located on a high hill southeast of Mount Hasan. The story told about KeçiKalesi captivates listeners and emphasizes its importance. Situated on the summit of a high mountain, this castle has never been conquered due to its location. A commander, intending to capture it, tied lanterns to the horns of a large number of goats and, at night, climbed the hill where the castle was located with his soldiers. The castle guards, thinking a large army was approaching, abandoned the castle. Thus, the castle was conquered without bloodshed. According to the legend, after this event, the castle's name remained Keçikalesi.

                        KEÇİKALESİ EFSANESİ

Keçi Kalesi, Hasan Dağı'nın güneydoğusunda yüksek bir tepe üzerinde bulunan bir kaledir. Keçikalesi hakkında anlatılan hikaye dinleyenlerin ilgisini çektiği gibi kalenin önemini de vurguluyor. Yüksek bir dağın zirvesinde yer alan bu kale, konumu nedeniyle bir türlü fethedilemez. Bu kaleyi ele geçirmeyi düşünen bir komutan çok miktardaki keçinin boynuzlarına fenerler bağlayarak gece olunca askerleriyle birlikte kalenin bulunduğu tepeye doğru tırmanışa geçer. Kale görevlileri büyük bir ordunun kendilerine doğru geldiğini sanıp kaleyi terk ederler.  Böylece kale hiç kan dökülmeden fethedilir. Efsaneye göre bu olay sonrasında kalenin ismi Keçi Kalesi olarak kalır.

If I were in the place of the character in this legend, I wouldn't use the power and the castle only for myself. I would treat my people justly and oppress no one. Instead of guarding the secret path known only to the goat, I would use it to benefit humanity. Knowing that greed leads to bad consequences, I would choose to share. Thus, the castle wouldn't be destroyed, and the legend would be told not with a tragic ending, but with a good example.

Ben bu efsanedeki karakterin yerinde olsaydım, gücü ve kaleyi sadece kendim için kullanmazdım. Halkıma adaletli davranır, kimseye zulmetmezdim. Keçinin bildiği gizli yolu korumak yerine, bu yolu insanlara fayda sağlayacak şekilde kullanırdım. Açgözlü olmanın sonunun kötü biteceğini bildiğim için paylaşmayı seçerdim. Böylece kale yıkılmaz, efsane acı bir sonla değil, iyi bir örnekle anlatılırdı.

If I were one of the people who protected Keçikalesi, I would first go to the highest place of the castle. From there, I could see everything clearly. If enemies came from far away, I would see them early.

At night, I would keep watch so nobody could come near the castle. I would control the roads to the castle, especially the narrow and hidden roads. I would also check if there was enough food and water in the castle. If there was a siege, we would need to stay for a long time. I would work with my friends and we would warn each other. I think in this way I could protect Keçikalesi well.

Eğer Keçikalesi’ni koruyanlardan biri olsaydım, önce kalenin en yüksek yerine çıkardım. Oradan her yeri daha iyi görebilirdim. Düşmanlar uzaktan gelirse onları erken fark ederdim.

Gece olunca nöbet tutardım. Böylece kimse kaleye fark edilmeden yaklaşamazdı. Kaleye çıkan yolları kontrol ederdim, özellikle dar ve gizli yolları.

Ayrıca kalede yeterli yiyecek ve su olmasına dikkat ederdim. Eğer bir kuşatma olursa uzun süre dayanmak gerekir. Arkadaşlarımla birlikte çalışır, birbirimizi uyarırdık.

Bence bu şekilde Keçikalesi’ni iyi bir şekilde koruyabilirdim.
