July 17 was Jason Green’s birthday. Year after 

year Jason got the same thing from his 

grandma. It was always a gift card to his 

favorite video game store. The day after his 

birthday was when his gift from his grandma 

arrived. It usually arrived a day or two late 

because she lived in Florida and he lived in 

Indiana. 

When it arrived he was on his PlayStation 3 

playing with his friends. His mom told him he 

got a package from his grandma and he 

decided he was getting bored with his games 

and went to go buy a new game. He was going 

to get a game that just came out Everyone 

wanted it or had it. When he asked her where it 

was, she told him it was sitting outside. He 

wondered why she had left it outside because 

the box was usually small. 

When he stepped outside, in front of him stood an 

enormous box that was taller and wider than him. He 

just stood there in shock. He knew it wasn't just one 

gift card, because his grandma was one of those 

people that doesn't like to waste things. He knew it 

wasn't full of gift cards because if it was he could 

probably buy the whole store’s inventory with it. He 

and his grandma were supposed to go to Disney 

World earlier that summer, but had to cancel 

because she had to go to the doctor. This led him to 

believe   that it was a giant stuffed animal or Disney 

character to make up for it.

He was in his garage getting a step ladder so he 

could get on top of the box and open it. While he was 

walking, he saw his Swiss Army knife and grabbed it 

so he could cut open the box. He got the ladder and 

walked back to where the box was still standing. He 

set up the ladder and cut open the box. When he 

finally got the top of the box open, he saw it was 

filled with styrofoam peanuts. He decided to push the 

box on its side to get the contents out. He barely got 

it tipped on its side and a wave of peanuts fell out. He 

went to the opened end of the box and started 

digging through the peanuts.

A few minutes later, after digging out almost all of the peanuts he found a 

large metal ring. He pulled it out and he was confused. Why did his 

grandma send him a metal ring? He studied it and found a small string 

that said, “Pull me if you dare.” He pulled the string and it came out, but 

nothing happened. He figured it was supposed to be a cheap toy and he 

broke it. But the string was actually turned out to be a gold chain and 

wondered why a gold chain was in a cheap toy. He thought he could get 

some money out of it and put it in his pocket when he noticed he still had 

his pocket knife. When he got to the door he heard a buzzing sound 

behind him. He turned around and the ring had started floating, was 

filling up with a green and blue goo and was spinning in mid air. When it 

stopped spinning, it was filled with the goo. He walked up to it and stuck 

his hand in it. He tried to pull it out, but it didn't come out. It actually 

started to pull him in, he fought and fought, but he could not stop it. 

Everything went black.

When Jason woke up, he realized he was no longer in his backyard. 

He looked around and suddenly was scared. He was in the middle of 

a jungle, but this was no ordinary jungle. The trees were blue with 

orange leaves. The plants were purple and yellow. The grass was 

red. He was scared, confused, worried and curious all at the same 

time. While he was thinking, the ground started shaking. He 

crawled up against a tree. What he saw next not only scared him, it 

terrified him. A giant brown T-Rex walked past him. Not knowing 

what to do, he climbed up the tree and sat. Again he was terrified. 

From the tree he was in, he could see for miles.He couldn't’t see 

the end of the jungle. He also saw a lot of dinosaurs. All of the 

sudden, the branch gave out underneath him. All he could see was 

the tree getting smaller and smaller and then everything went 

black.

When he woke up he was surrounded by people. He also 

noticed that he was in a building. They were kids that all 

seemed to be his age. There were five of them. Four 

were boys and one was a girl. They explained how they 

heard the portal open and came to find him when they 

saw Benny. They called the T-rex Benny. They saw him 

fall from the tree and found him unconscious. They had 

all gotten the same strange box and had been 

teleported to the same strange world. The four boys 

were Jake, Sam, Mitch, and Mike. The girl was Cassie. 

They explained that the only way to get back to their 

normal lives was to get to the exit portal and activate it 

and then they would be able to go home. It was now 

late at night, so they all went to bed so they could get 

to the exit portal tomorrow.
