You are the sunshine after every storm, the giggles in quiet rooms, and the greatest adventure of my heart.
May you always be brave enough to dream, kind enough to care and wise enough to know how deeply you are loved.
This book is for you and for all the magic you bring into my life. Love Grandma

Once upon a Time, there was a very special white dog. He didn’t look magical at first. He had soft fur, warm eyes, and a tail that wagged whenever someone needed cheering up. But, what no one knew, at least not right away, was that he was an angel sent to earth with a quiet mission.
Angel dogs come at a very specific time, with a very specific goal and when their work on earth is done, they spread their wings.
This is the story of an angel dog named Surf Dog
When grandma Jody‘s sons left for college, the house grew unbearably quiet. The laughter that once bounced off the walls was replaced by ticking clocks and empty bedrooms, and she wandered from room to room feeling a little lost. One morning she woke up with a sudden jump, sat straight up in bed and said out loud, “ I need a dog. I need a dog now.” It wasn’t just a thought, it was a calling, and that very moment, without her knowing it yet, was the beginning of the healing of her heart.
She didn’t wait a single minute………………

Still in her morning sweatshirt, she drove straight down to the little country store where there was a small ad in the little local paper that said retriever puppies For Sale. Her heart raced as she called the number from her car. The man on the other end said “I’ve got just one left.” Without hesitation, she smiled and replied “I’ll take him” and just like that, with one brave hopeful yes, Surf Dog was hers.

Oh, the lessons Surf dog brought – more than she ever could count. He taught her to start each day with gratitude, because he always greeted the morning with a Tail wag and a joyful bark. He taught others kindness – because on every walk, he would nuzzle anybody who looked lonely. He taught patience – waiting calmly when anyone needed a moment. He taught faithfulness – reminding everyone to toss aside their worries And chase a rabbit once in a while.
For over 11 years, Surf dog turned her home from quiet to warm. He taught her that love can come unexpectedly, that life is about both Service and companionship.

Surf dog always sat proudly at Grandma Jody’s side, tail brushing the ground, eyes full of joy and loyalty. He wasn’t just a walking buddy, he was her steady presence, her silent protector, her reminder to slow down and savor the moment. Together, they had shared countless walks, like this, all of them stitched together by trust and love.

This very special white dog also taught the babies, too. When they were wobbly on their feet and unsure of the world, he stayed still so they could lean on him. When they were tired, he became a pillow.

When they were scared, he didn’t bark – he simply stood close, letting them feel his steady heartbeat. From him, they learned that love doesn’t rush. Love waits.

Surf dog taught lots of kids, too. City kids, country kids, quiet kids, noisy kids – he loved them all the same. One special family he met during a time when the world felt strange and lonely. He listened to their stories, let them hug his neck and reminded them how to be playful. From him, they learned that even when everything changes, kindness stays.

Over the years, Surf dog’s family grew in the most beautiful ways. The family blossomed into a circle of grandchildren, neighbors who stopped by just to sit with him, and even strangers who felt better after one sandy walk beside him.

Surf dog had a way of making everyone feel chosen. Tail wagging, eyes shining, and heart wide open his family was everyone whose life he gently touched along the way.

Surf dog also had lots of adventures along the way. Grandma Jody bought the biggest, whitest church anyone had ever seen. It had tall windows, creaky floors, twisty staircases, and echoes that went boom every time she sneezed.
She moved in with her sweet, fluffy giant white retriever. Surf dog was so white he almost glowed like a walking marshmallow with ears.
Grandma Jody had one tiny hope when she was in the church………………
“Well,” she said, standing in the middle of the church, hands on her hips, “Surely there’s a ghost in here.”Grandma Jody wanted to see a ghost. She wanted to hear spooky footsteps. She wanted a bell to ring all by itself – dinggggg!

But nothing ever happened. Not once. No floating figures. No whispering voices. No spooky bells. Grandma Jody sighed. “Hello?” she called up to the ceiling. “Ghosts? Spirits? Anyone? I promise I’m nice!”
Nothing.
But Surf dog, oh, he knew things. Every night, he’d suddenly sit up straight. His ears would perk. His eyes would follow something across the room. “What do you see? “Grandma Jody whispered. Surf tilted his head.
“Woof,”…..which clearly meant you don’t want to know.
Sometimes he’d stare at the stairs and wag his tail like he was greeting an invisible friend. Sometimes he woofed at the air like “hey that’s my spot.” Grandma Jody crossed her arms. “Oh, come on,” she said, “if there are ghosts they can come out, I’m not afraid,” But all she heard was silence.
Surf dog slowly looked at her… Then at the corner… Then back at her. “Woof!” Grandma Jody tried again. “Dear spirits. I renovated this whole church. The least you can do is say hello.”
Nothing. Just silence.
Late at night, when the church creaked and the wind hummed through the windows, Surf dog would curl up close watching the shadows, guarding Grandma Jody like a fluffy knight. “Well,” she said, “even if I never see a ghost… I guess I already have my angel.” And somewhere – maybe in the rafters, maybe in the walls – something seemed to chuckle quietly, but only surf dog heard it.

Surf dog always lived in the moment. Every walk was an exciting time. Hugs were always welcome and he taught that what’s happening right now is where Joy lives.

Angel dogs forgive quickly and completely. Yesterday‘s mistakes don’t matter to them. They don’t interrupt, correct or laugh when you share your feelings. They are the most powerful listeners.
Surf dog loved Grandma Jody‘s mother in the biggest, softest, most tail-wagging way possible. He would gently rest his big white head on her lap, looking up at her with those warm, knowing eyes, as if he understood every word she said. He walked more slowly beside her, sat extra politely at her feet and guarded her chair like it was royal treasure. Surf dog loved her with a tender, angel kind of love.
