INTERESTING FACTS
Seahorse lives in Mediterranean Sea, Sea of Marmara, Pacific Ocean and Atlantic Ocean (Taylan Deniz, Kerem, teacher Esen GÜR).
Despite their exotic look, seahorses breathe through gills, just like other fish. However, they have a very small, two-chambered heart that beats extremely fast to support their high metabolism. They are incredible ambush predators. Since they are slow swimmers, they use their long snouts like a vacuum. When prey passes by, they rapidly rotate their heads (a pivot motion) and suck the victim in so fast that the prey has no time to react. Many species are monogamous (at least for a single breeding season). Their daily "greeting" ritual, where they intertwine tails and dance, is essential for synchronizing the partners' reproductive cycles.
