Have you ever been the new student at a school? Today is Lily’s first day of school. She is a new student; she is shy and scared to go to school. She wants to make friends, but she doesn’t know how. Her mom said, "You can do it! Just be yourself.”

Lily wasn't sure she could make friends.

 At school, a girl called Mia wanted to be friends with Lily. 

   “If I try to talk to the new student, maybe we can be friends.” Mia thought, but she was scared to talk to Lily. “What if she doesn’t want to be friends with me?” Mia was worried about how to make Lily happy.

What can I do?

  Mia wanted to be Lily’s friend. She suddenly had a great idea. Mia suggested to the teacher that they have a welcome party for Lily. Her teacher thought it was a great idea!     

  In the party room, Mia, another classmate, called Ava, and the teacher were very happy to help Lily to prepare a welcome party.

Then, Mia told Lily a funny joke: “Why did the dog sit in the shade?" Lily thought for a while, but she didn't know why. "Because it didn’t want to be a hot dog!” Lily laughed and smiled. Mia felt very happy, so she told another joke. 

  “Why was 6 afraid of 7? Because 7, 8, 9!” (7 ate 9). Lily laughed again. It felt like she was making friends and she was not so scared or shy any more.
