The Mormons were a religious group who moved west in 1847. They left because of many push and pull reasons.

Some of the push factors that caused them to move was because they were in harmed and hated because of their religion. But also, because the Illinois legislator took away the city's charter which left the Mormons without legal protection. 

Some  of the pull factors are that the Mormons were able to have religious freedom and new opportunities to start a new life. They would also be right next to fresh water. 

 So, after all of the reason to leave they did eventually go and move west into Utah.  

When they moved west, they went to Utah near the Great Salt Lake. The characteristics of the area they lived in was a dry wild climate almost like a desert, but it was also near a water source. These conditions made life hard to live in, but it also provided opportunities for agriculture because the water was so close.  

The Mormons encountered many innovations along the way of their journey. These Innovation effected the way the Mormons lived.
