Today, what truly defines a family? Is it living under the same roof, or being connected to the same Wi-Fi?
In the past, memories lived in tangible photographs. Today, they are shaped in cloud drives and digital footprints. Technology entered our homes as a guest but quickly became the most dominant member. In a world where screens are so bright, can we still see the light in each other's eyes?
"My Ideal Digital Family" is not a manifesto against technology. On the contrary, this book is a guide to using it as an ally that unites us, rather than a threat that divides. It is about existing safely and consciously without losing our human connection.

It was a quiet Sunday morning at the Tekin household. But it wasn't a peaceful silence; it was a "screen silence." Everyone was tucked into their own corner of the living room sofa. Ten-year-old Ege was lost in a digital game world, while seven-year-old Zeynep sat focused on her cartoons with headphones on. Their mother, Elif, was busy replying to work emails, and their father, Murat, was scrolling through the latest news on his smartwatch. Although they were all in the same room, they were actually miles apart.

Suddenly, the Wi-Fi connection dropped. The glowing screens went dark. Four heads slowly lifted at the same time, and for the first time in hours, their eyes met. The digital wall between them had finally vanished.

The room felt different now.
Not empty… but warm.
Murat rolled the dice with a small laugh. “I forgot how fun this was,” he admitted.
Elif smiled, putting her phone aside. “Maybe we didn’t forget… we just stopped making time.”
Ege leaned forward, excited. “Let’s play one more round!”
Zeynep giggled. “And after that… can we tell stories? Like before?”
For the first time in a long while, no one reached for a screen.
Instead, they reached for each other.
Outside, the Wi-Fi signal came back.
But inside the Tekin house… no one noticed.

That night didn’t end with the game.
It turned into something more.
Murat picked up an old photo album from the shelf.
“Do you remember this?” he asked softly.
Ege and Zeynep moved closer.
Elif smiled. “These were our story nights.”
One by one, they began to share memories…
funny ones, silly ones, even a few they had almost forgotten.
The house filled with laughter again—
not from a screen, but from their voices.
After a while, Zeynep looked around and whispered,
“Can we do this again tomorrow?”No one answered right away.
But this time…no one said no.

The next evening, they gathered again—this time on purpose.
Phones stayed on the table. The TV remained off.
“Are we doing this again?” Ege asked with a smile.
“Story night?” Zeynep added, hopeful.
Elif nodded. “Yes… let’s not lose this again.”
They laughed, played, and shared stories—just like before.
And slowly, it became a habit.
Because they realized…the best connection wasn’t Wi-Fi,it was each other.

The days passed, and the “screen-free hour” began to grow in unexpected ways. As the weekend was approaching, instead of staying in bed with their tablets, the Tekin family decided to go to the nearby park. Murat left his smartwatch at home, and Elif put her phone on “Do Not Disturb” mode.
Ege was no longer searching for a place with a good Wi-Fi signal; instead, he looked for flat stones to throw into the lake. Their parents watched them while holding hands and enjoying the gentle breeze and the sound of their children’s laughter.
Funda's Teams

The following week, the Tekin family tried something new.
They created a “Family Challenge Jar” and filled it with fun activity ideas.
“Let’s pick one!” Zeynep said.
Ege pulled out a note.
“Teach the family something you know.”
Murat showed a card trick. Elif folded a paper butterfly. Ege shared a drawing tip, and Zeynep taught everyone a song.
Soon, the room was filled with laughter and applause.
That evening, they discovered something more interesting than a screen...
...each other’s talents.

A few days later, Zeynep had an idea.
“Why don’t we invite Grandma to join our challenge?” she suggested.
That evening, Grandma visited the Tekin family.
She picked a note from the jar and smiled.
“Tell a story from your childhood.”
As Grandma began to speak, everyone listened carefully.
Her stories were full of adventures, laughter, and lessons from the past.
Even Ege, who usually loved games, couldn't take his eyes off her.
By the end of the night, the family realized that some of the best stories didn't come from the internet...
They came from the people we love.
