"My little white sheet, my crazy lamp, what kind of love is blowing upon us? Take this child into your shadow..."
-Dionysis Savvopoulos
Dedicated to all the children who believe that shadows can tell the brightest stories. A special thanks to our Grade A2 students for their creativity and teamwork!

Introduction & Inspiration
Our journey started with our Greek Language Textbook! We read about the magical world of shadow theater and decided to bring Karagiozis to our classroom.
The Roots of Tradition
We learned about the history of this traditional art, the characters, and how shadow theater traveled through time. Shadow Theater is one of the oldest forms of storytelling in Greece. Our main hero, Karagiozis, has been making people laugh for over 200 years! This folk art was the "cinema" of the past, using only a white sheet, a few puppets, and a lot of imagination.

Science:
The Science of Shadows
How does a shadow work? Our young scientists discovered that to create magic on the screen, we need three things: A Light Source, an Object, and a Surface. We experimented with light to see how shadows grow bigger or smaller by changing the distance between the puppet and the lamp!

We explored how shadows are created by using the most powerful light source: the Sun.
As young scientists, we observed that our bodies act as 'obstacles' to the sunlight. When we blocked the sun's rays, a shadow appeared on the wall or the ground, mimicking our every move. We experimented with different poses to see how the shapes changed, discovering the basic principles of Optics through play and observation. It was our first big step in understanding that light travels in straight lines!
Mathematics:
Sun, Shadow and Time
Measuring time! We used a stick and a circle to create a solar clock. Math helped us understand the earth's rotation through the movement of shadows.Science is even more fun under the sun!

Engineering:
Building our Stage
We became little engineers! We designed and built our own "Mperntes" (shadow stage). We learned how to create a sturdy frame and how to stretch the white fabric so that the shadows would appear clearly. It was a teamwork challenge!

Art:
Creating the Characters
Time for Art! We designed, colored, and "articulated" our puppets.Creating a puppet is a challenge of Engineering! We had to make sure our characters could move. Using paper, wooden sticks, and metal joints (fasteners), we transformed flat drawings into movable puppets. Every cut and every joint was a step toward bringing our heroes to life.

Technology:
Mastering the Light
Exploring professional lighting. We tested different lamps and positions behind the screen to get the best visual effect for our play.

The Magic of the Premiere
Lights off, torches on! The moment we were all waiting for finally arrived. Our performance was a success. The students took their roles as puppeteers and brought the story to life. It was magical to see our voices and movements come together to tell a story. Through our digital video, we invite you to take a front-row seat and enjoy the show we created with our hearts!

What we Learned
Through this project, we didn't just play; we built, we measured, we experimented, and we created. We proved that with a little light and a lot of imagination, we can keep our tradition alive for the next generation! Our students share their favorite moments and what it means to work as a team in a STEAM project.
The Collaborative Spirit of our Journey
Despite working from a distance, we stayed active on our Twinspace!
- We regularly uploaded our photos and experiments to show our progress to our European friends.
- We visited the project pages to gain inspiration from the work and puppets of other schools.
- Even as a single class, we felt part of a bigger European team united by our love for STEAM and tradition!

The end of one journey is the beginning of another." Thanks to all the students of Grade A!
