One of the most fascinating parts
of our sky, something we see shining
bright up above, is our beautiful Sun!

2
But what exactly is the purpose of our Sun?Why is it even there?
3
And just like the ones shining bright
in the night, our Sun is actually a star
as well!Well, to start with, our Sun is VERY old;
evidence shows that it is about 4.6 BILLION
years old!

Compared to the size of the Earth, the Sun
is absolutely HUGE! It is so big that you could actually fit
nearly 1.3 million Earths into the Sun!

The Sun is composed of two main chemicals:
hydrogen (about 91.2%) and helium (about 8.7%).
The rest of the chemicals only take up less than
0.1% of the total composition!

The Corona is the outermost layer of the Sun. It is the bright, hazy area
around the Sun that can easily be seen during a solar eclipse.A solar eclipse occurs when the moon lines up between the Sun and
the Earth, blocking most of the light of the Sun.

The Chromosphere is the next outermost layer of the Sun.
Like the Corona, it can only be seen during a solar eclipse.
It appears as a thin red line with the Corona shining around it.

The next layer is the Photosphere. This layer is commonly
described as the surface of the Sun, as it is the visible
layer that we can see with our eyes.
The Photosphere is the layer that shines the Sun's light,
which is radiation that escapes to Earth as sunlight.

inside the Sun. At over 2 million degrees in temperature, this
layer is made out of a gas called plasma.
Energy gets carried out through motions called convection currents
that are in the gas. The hot gas rises and releases particles known
as photons as it begins to cool. It then sinks back down and becomes
heated up again.
The photons are light particles, and the Convection Zone is
responsible for creating them!
