What is geography? -- Geography is the study of Earth's physical features, (Rivers and Mountain ranges.) You can use latitude and longitude to find where all the different places in the world are. Latitude and longitude are two numbers
that make up the destination of a place.

Each place on the map has their own natural resources. We call those renewable and non-renewable resources. A renewable resource is something that can be replenished or made again. A non-renewable resourse is something that can't be replenished or made again.
Economics
Economics is the study of how people, businesses, and governments make choices when there isn't enough to go around. Some economies are more developed than others, so they all have different goods and services. Countries trade with each other to take advantage of each other's strengths and resources.

What is government? --Government is the organization that sets up and enforces laws. --
We need government because they protect people and their rights, and to resolve conflicts within the country and other countries. There are lots of different types of governments including, constitutional monarchy, dictatorship, absolute monarchy, and an oligarchy. There are more but these are the main types of governemnts.

What is culture? --Culture is a way of life a group of people have. -- Some parts of culture are beliefs, ideas, food, clothing, sports, religion, government and language. There's different types of cultural change, which are cultural diffusion and acculturation. Cultural diffusion is the movement of customs and ideas. Accultaration is the process of accepting new ideas and fitting them into culture.

There are 5 major religions in the world, those are, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Each religion is either polytheistic or monotheistic. Polytheistic means that your worship one or more God, and Monotheistic is when you worship only one God.

Judaism is Monotheistic and 14 million people follow that religion. Their Holy Book is called the Torah. Christianity is Monotheistic and 2.1 billion people follow that religion. Their Holy Book is called The Bible. Islam is Monotheistic and 1.5 billion people follow that religion. Their HOly Book is called the Qur'an. Hinduism is Polytheistic and 900 million people follow that religion. Their Holy Book is called Vedas. Buddhism doesnt believe in a God and 376 million people follow that religion. They have many sacred texts not just one Holy Book.
River Civilizations
In this unit you will learn about Eygpt, Mesopotamnia, and the Indus Valley. Ancient Egypt was formed around the Nile Valley in Northern Africa. The Ancient Egyptians had to built canals to transport water to crops. Why did the Ancient Egyptians use the Nile? They used it because they were excellent boat builders and the Nile had provided a source of transportation and trade was very profitable.
