Eloise was an extremely studious student!
She always showed up to class ten minutes before it started, and got the highest grades among her peers.
Her teachers adored her. "She is the perfect student!" they exclaimed.
Soon, Eloise discovered something called "TikTok." In it, there were highly engaging videos of every imaginable topic, and they granted immense pleasure upon sight.
After returning home from school, she would open TikTok every day and watch videos for an hour.
Slowly but surely, her screen time increased until it became two hours.
And then three hours... and then four... and then five.
Eloise began noticing something terrible... her grades were dropping!
Her teachers began looking at her with pitiful faces, wondering why their star student had become mediocre.
Eloise herself was heartbroken. How could this happen? How could something she put years of effort into drop so quickly?
Even though her grades kept getting lower and lower, Eloise could not focus on her work.
When she looked at the paper, her mind froze. Suddenly, the impulse to pick up her phone would become so great that all of Eloise's logic fly out the window!
It would only take three minutes for her mind to change courses from homework to TikTok.
And with time, it her grades only became lower and lower.
Eloise started to feel lonely.
Instead of going out with her friends, she was stuck at home, hypnotized by her phone screen.
Eventually, her friends stopped asking her to go out with them.
Her teachers stopped praising her hard work and extraordinary results.
And Eloise was left all by herself.
One evening, while Eloise was scrolling on TikTok during recess time, her old friend came up to her.
"Eloise!" Sarah exclaimed. "I have been looking for you everywhere!"
"Oh, hey Sarah," Eloise said distractedly. "Oh, that's weird. I was just doing something."
"Really? What are you doing?" Sarah sat on the bench next to Eloise.
Eloise shrugged, "I've been on my phone for a while."
"Eloise, is this what you have been doing the past couple days? I was so lonely without you," Sarah made puppy-eyes at Eloise, begging her to put the phone down.
Eloise sighed and turned her phone off. "Yeah, this is pretty much what I have been doing. Why?"
"I was concerned for you."
"Concerned?" Eloise questioned. "Why would you be concerned for me?"
"Eloise, you are supposed to be our top student! But I got higher grades than you on the last three tests!" Sarah exclaimed.
Eloise blushed. "Oh, I have been struggling lately, but I do not know why. It's alright! I'm sure everything will go back to normal soon."
"I know why," Sarah said seriously.
