What Is An Ecosystem?

An ecosystem is a community of living and nonliving things that work together. Living things include plants and animals.
Nonliving things include sunlight, water, rocks, air, and soil.

Producers Make Food

Plants are called producers because they make their own food using sunlight.
Trees, grass, and flowers give energy to many animals in the ecosystem.

Consumers Need Energy

Animals are consumers because they cannot make their own food. Some animals eat plants, while others eat other animals. Rocky the fox eats rabbits, insects, and berries.

THE FOOD CHAIN

Every living thing depends on another living thing for energy.

If one part of the food chain changes, the whole ecosystem can be affected.
