Today I decided that it was “I Can Day!” My sister Verity and I spent the whole day thinking of things each of us could do.

Verity went first. “I can fly like a bird!” she yelled. She flapped her arms like wings, stood on the bed, and jumped. She hit the floor with a loud bang and bumped her head.
“Ouch!” she cried.
Mummy bandaged her head and said, “Birds have wings, but children have beds to sleep in, not to fly from!”

Once Verity stopped crying, the game started up again.
“I can wear my new tracksuit,” I said.
“And I can wear my red dress and pink wellington boots!” Verity chimed in.
As we headed downstairs, I said, “I can walk slowly down the stairs.”
Verity smiled and holding my hand, replied, “Let’s go in pairs!”
Soon, we were ready to head out.
“I can get the shopping bag, “I said.
Verity said, “I can help too!”
Mummy said, “I can drive us to our favourite store. I can take the scenic way so we can see Mopplee Forest!”
Verity clapped her hands. “Let’s play the 'I Can' game some more!”
“I can do that,” I said.

“I can swim like a fish and go very far!” I said, moving my arms through the air just like I do at the swimming pool. Then I looked around and realized we were already buckled into the car.

“What about animals?” Verity said.
“The noises you mean?” I asked.
Verity said, “I can meow like a cat, woof like a dog and moo like a cow.”
“Anyone can do those,” I said.
Mummy suggested we think about animals that live in the zoo.
“I guess I can trumpet like an elephant and roar like a lion. I think monkeys chatter!” I chimed.
Mummy made a funny noise, “Hoot, hoot!” She then asked, “Can you guess the animal?”
Verity and I shouted out, “owl!”
“Yes,” said Mummy.

“What can Mummy do?” Verity asked.
Mummy said, “I can dance and sing, I can also cook. But most of all I like to go on adventures!” Mummy likes to go on holidays, especially to go skiing and snorkelling.
I said, “Daddy can do lots of things, like fly helicopters, make delicious birthday cakes and he can dive and ski too!”
Mummy replied, “We can do many things!” We all then smiled.
