Chapter 1
The Real Life Living Scarecrow
In a field, on a farm, there stood a scarecrow, leaning precariously to the side.
One day there was a terrible thunderstorm, and it blew the scarecrow right off its post. And it lay on the ground like that for the rest of time, or so it seemed.
A few days later, the scarecrow lifted its head, and looked around. It gets to its foot and then finally realizes that it is no longer just an inanimate scarecrow.
It runs through the field until it reaches a long pathway of cement with yellow lines running through the middle. Of course, the scarecrow didn't realize that it was looking at a simple road.
The scarecrow hops onto the road and suddenly whoosh! A big metal thing on wheels drives past it. The scarecrow stumbles backwards and almost falls over! But it manages to catch itself, mostly because its back is stiff and it can't actually fall backwards.
The scarecrow hops onto the side of the road, so that the metal things won't bother it. Then, it makes its way slowly towards the small houses that it can see in the distance.
After a long time of walking and running, it finally makes it to the first house. The scarecrow then sits on a chair and stays there perfectly until morning.
Once it is morning, the scarecrow hears a strange sound coming from the house. It is the gasp of a boy, wondering why there is a scarecrow sitting on his deck.
The boy jogs over to the scarecrow and squeals, "Awesome! A new toy!"
Then he says, "I think I will call you Gary!"

Then suddenly, Gary opens his eyes and coughs.
The boy gasps. "You're alive! AWESOME!"
Gary responds, "Yes, it seems that I am alive. I have no idea why. I did not even know that I could talk until now."
Gary waits for the boy to respond, but the boy is so shocked and excited that he can't say anything.

"I know that you named me Gary, but what is your name?" Gary asks.
"Wow!" the boy says. "A real life living scarecrow! My name is Bennet! Where did you come from? The magical land of Oompa Loompa?"
"Cool. Hello Bennet, and no, I did not come from Oompa Loompa. I just came from a field, on a farm. Also, can you tell me what that is?"
He pointed to the road.
"That's a road," Bennet replies. "Would you like to come inside with me? I will introduce you to my parents!"
Then he races off into the house, and Gary follows.
Chapter 2
What Seems Like a Made Up Story
When Gary reaches the front door, he looks into the clean house. There is a living room to his left, with a big black screen and some comfy looking chairs.
To his right, is a kitchen where Bennet stands, talking to a nice looking lady.
Directly in front of Gary, there is a staircase with 12 steps.
Gary walks over to Bennet in the kitchen.
"Mom, this is my new friend Gary," Bennet introduces. "He is a scarecrow who came alive, but he doesn't know how."
"Interesting," The lady says. "Where did you live?"
"I lived in a field, on a farm, and I walked ran a long way here, where Bennet found me."
"well Gary," the lady replies. "I am Bennet's mother, and you can stay here as long as you want."
"What can I call you?" asks Gary.
"You can call me mom. Just like Bennet."
Then she gives Bennet very clear instructions. "Bennet, go introduce Gary to your father. He is in our bedroom. Ask him if he can build a trundle bed for Gary."
They walk upstairs and go into Bennet's parents' bedroom.
"Dad, the is a new member of our family, Gary," Bennet introduces.
His father turns around. "Welcome, Gary."

Good morning Bennet. I see you've brought a new friend.

"What should I call you?" Gary asks.
"Call me Dad."
"Oh, one last thing," Bennet says. "Can you please make Gary a trundle bed his size?"
"Sure thing," Dad says. "Also, Gary, I see you only have one leg. Can I build you another leg?"
"Yes!" Gary says excitedly.
"I would love to walk on two feet and not just hop, it's tiring when I hop!"
Dad, Bennet, and Gary all smile.
Chapter 3
Family Life
Bennet and Gary share Bennet's bed that night. The next morning, and all of the next day, Bennet and Gary play outside while Dad works on the trundle bed and Gary's leg. He works very hard.
When Mom calls them in for dinner, Dad says, "I have a surprise for you!"
And there is the trundle bed and Gary's leg. Mom holds Gary up straight and Dad attaches his leg to him.
"I love being part of a family," Gary cheers.
Bennet says, "We're so glad you're here!"
"Maybe tomorrow we can go to the corn maze," Mom says. "As a fun fall celebration."
"Yes!" Bennet, Gary and Dad say.

I'm still Gary!

The next morning the entire family piles in the car to go to the corn maze.
"I've never been in a car before," Gary says. "Can cars go really fast?"
"Yes, they're like cars but they fly up in the sky. Plus you can get airsick."
"What's airsick?" Gary asks.
"It's an illness you only get in planes or helicopters," Bennet replies.
"I don't want to get an illness," Gary says. "I'll try not to get airsick."
"You can't control it," Bennet says. "You just get airsick if you get airsick."
They both laugh.
"Yeah I guess you're right," Gary replies.

Oh no! Gary's airsick!
"One more minute until the corn maze!" Mom says.
Sure enough, one minute later they arrive at the corn maze.
Gary tries to get out realizes he's still buckled!
"How do you unbuckle this thing?" he asks.
Bennet shows him the red button that unbuckles seatbelts.
"Everyone ready? Let's go!" says Dad.
