Prologue
Chapter 1
Moonlight sprang down from the drift, her paws hitting the powder with a soft . She slid up next to her foster brother, gently pressing her shoulder against his to help him balance. "Put your weight on your back left paw, Echo," she whispered softly. "Like Swift showed us on the canyon ledge. Trust the stone, even if you can't feel it."
"Blizzard! Moonlight!" Sunrise gasped, her eyes wide with terror. "You need to come to the center camp right now. Ash's hunting patrol just returned from the eastern border."
Chapter 2
Forest, Moonlight's father, stepped forward, his brindle coat tight against his heavy muscles. "If they cross the frozen river in those numbers, our borders won't hold. We need to know how big this army really is before the deep winter blizzard traps us in the valley."
Chapter 3
They skidded down the rocky slope to the edge of the frozen river—the exact place where they had leaped for their lives six moons ago. Now, the ice was thick enough to walk across, but the dark, jagged rocks of the Badlands looked even more terrifying in the midnight gloom.
Out from behind the fallen stones stepped Fang himself, his single milky-white eye gleaming with malice in the dark. Behind him, a dozen more rogue warriors slid down the canyon walls, completely surrounding Shadow on the slippery ice.

Chapter 7
"Nothing is down there, pup," Scar-Face muttered impatiently. "I've lived in these caves for three winters. It's just empty stone."
