Welcome to my new book! More like a short story- but, oh well! This is my second debut to story jumper- I'll be posting frequently.. so make sure to stop by sometime to check my progress!
"Kenzie...wake...UP!"
Bang!
Sounded the pots, as they bashed together and rose Kenzie up like a corpse from its grave. Cindy, standing above her with a terrifying pan-bell in hand, pointed to the clock. She grinned- like the evil sibling she was, at her poor sister's misfortune as she stared at her timer.
"That's not right.." Said Kenzie, gaping,
"It says 7....20?! I'm supposed to be at school 10 minutes from now!"
Cindy retreated from the open bedroom door, cackling, as Kenzie hurriedly threw on yesterday's joggers. She ran to her mirror, one hand desperately searching for a perfume sample and the other grasping at her hair with a scrunchie
"Kenzie, is that you?"
Asked her mum, groggily, walking near her door as she clutched tight to her bathrobe
"You're supposed to be on the bus right now!"
Kenzie hurried past her, "It's okay, mum! Just drive me on your way to work!"
She jogged down the stairs clutching a handful of bangles and her necklace, tossing them to the other end of the counter as she debated having cereal.
It's okay, right? I'm a fast eater. Plus- it's my first day. I deserve breakfast!
Was her thought process, but all she heard was her mum's-
cursing and nagging, stomping down the upper floor. She returned the cereal-destined bowl to the cupboard dejectedly, making a run for her accessories and then to face the microwave mirror for last- minute mascara. Her mum, too, hurried down the stairs. Kenzie tossed her the car keys from behind the microwave, and they both slid into the car 5 minutes from the start of homeroom. Now that her sister, Cindy, was taking a year off from school before college, Kenzie could take in all the glory of being a passenger princess. However, all that mattered to her now was not looking like a mess. She fixed her hair in the car mirror, wiped down her hoodie, and fidgeted through her bracelets as she watched the new school route-
that flew past them as they drove concerningly close to the speed limit.
Kenzie sighed, sinking into the plush cover of her new seat, looking down at her new canvases and lint-plucked sweatpants. Then, to her side, right and left, then again- and again, and then the world stopped revolving. Oh my days... she thought, I...I forgot my backpack.
The ONE thing she was expected to bring. To an EDUCATIONAL facility- on the first day...and she forgot it.
The ride to school suddenly stooped to a deep silence, and she decided not to ask her mum to drive back. It was the first day of school, she obviously wouldn't need it, right....?
