The Karate Kid

There was a girl who lived in New York City. She was 9 and a half now. She loved doing challenging stuff like gymnastics, kendo, and soccer. Her little brother was born on December 3rd.

    It was a super happy day for the Diazs.

The little girl's name was  Serena. Her school had lots of bullies so it was  a hard time.

    So she  thought to herself what should I do to stop them?

    Then all of a sudden she knew what she should do. She did have a little lesson about  karate  when she was little at her kindergarten. But she broke her leg once  so she could not go to school for a week. She loved challenges so she decided to give it a try again.

    She did meet someone who knows karate too. And they said it was a good idea to do it  for self-defense around bullies. 

                              Chapter Two

She raced home after school and got her diary and started writing:

How to become a karate professional.

    First idea: 

    Then she stopped… Her mom came back from work. Her mom works on Broadway and she is making a new musical. She always leaves home at 3am  and comes home about 20 minutes after I do (that's me, Serena) .

    Serena ran to her mom and told her, "I want to do karate lessons!" She didn’t think her mom would say yes but it was worth a try. It took about 60 seconds for her mom to answer.

    Her mom was surprised because she had just talked to a karate teacher who was at the donut store. She was buying  a present for Father's Day.

Her mom said, “Maybe you can start slow and do it on YouTube.”

    Everything is on YouTube in our house.

    “But mom, I really wanted to do this,” said Serena. Behind her back she crossed her fingers.

    If I know my mom, she is going to change the topic in 3,2,1—

    “So let's get ready for dinner shall we?”   

    “I will be in my room then…” said Serena.

    And I ran upstairs and up again.

    Then 30 minutes later she heard her Dad and brother shutting the door.    

    She felt sad for some reason and just stayed in her bed. She had a really cool bed that was soccer themed. And had a soccer ball with a soccer celebrity’s signature on it.  

    But unfortunately she became bored so she went downstairs and started to practice her karate. Her brother was eating potato chips and it was falling onto the carpet!

    He always does so no surprise.

    Serena was doing karate until dinner. Her mom was very surprised that she hadn’t asked to watch videos yet. She loves watching videos!

                                  Chapter3

    "Dinner!!!" mom called out.

     "Wait 5 more minutes please?"

     "Okay five more....Denys, Charly!"

    Dad came into the room and said, "Wow!!! I think you should take her to the karate show...It is due on the 24th I think," said dad.

    "That is a good idea," said mom.
