IF YOU WERE THE WRITER OF THE LEGENDARY BOOK "PRIDE AND PREJUDICE" IN THE 2000S,
HOW WOULD YOU WRITE IT?

OF SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL
Pride, Prejudice, and High School Rumors
Eliza Bennet was a smart, independent high school junior. She didn't care about popularity or expensive clothes. Instead, she spent her time running the school’s underground digital newspaper, The Buzz, where she wrote about student rights and criticized the popular kids.
William Darcy was the captain
of the debate team and the richest
kid in school. He was handsome
and brilliant, but he was also
incredibly quiet, distant, and
looked like he was constantly
judging everyone...

OF SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL
... They met at the school’s Back-to-School dance. Eliza’s best friend, Jane, was dancing happily with Charles Bingley, a friendly and very popular varsity soccer player. Eliza was standing near the juice bowl when she overheard Charles talking to Darcy.
"Come on, Darcy! You need to dance. Look at Eliza standing over there, she looks cool."
Darcy glanced at Eliza with his usual cold expression. "She is okay, Charles. But she is currently staring at her phone, probably writing a bad review about this dance for her blog. I don’t want to be her next target."
Eliza froze. She lowered her phone and looked straight into his eyes. Wow, what an arrogant snob! she thought. Her pride was hurt, and she decided right then that she hated William Darcy.

The School War
Over the next month, Eliza wrote a few sharp articles in The Buzz about the "arrogance of student leaders," clearly targeting Darcy. Darcy knew the articles were about him, but weirdly, he found himself liking her more and more. She wasn't like the other girls who flattered him just because he was rich. She was clever, honest, and didn't care about his status.
The breaking point happened on a rainy Tuesday afternoon in the school library. Darcy blocked Eliza's way in the book aisle. He looked very nervous.
"Eliza, wait. Can I talk to you for a minute?" he asked.
"What do you want, Darcy? Come to complain about my articles again?" Eliza said sharply.

"No," Darcy said, stepping closer. "I don't care about the articles. I care about you. I’ve tried to ignore my feelings because we are from different worlds, and you clearly dislike me. But I can't hide it anymore. I really like you."
Eliza stared at him, shocked. "You think you can insult me at the school dance, ruin my friend Jane’s happiness—" (for Darcy had recently told Charles that Jane was just using him for popularity) "—and then tell
me that you like me? You are unbelievable!"
"I was just protecting my best
friend!" Darcy defended himself.
"And I am protecting my peace.
The answer is no, Darcy."

The Big Mistake
The next week, a toxic rumor started spreading on TikTok. A rival student group leaked a fake story about Eliza’s family, claiming her father’s small bookstore was closing because of bad debts. Eliza was devastated; she knew she would be bullied at school.
But the next morning, the videos were completely gone. The students who started the rumor posted a public apology. Eliza found out that Darcy had spent the whole night talking to the school principal and threatening the bullies with official suspension.

At the same time, Charles Bingley ran to Jane’s locker, apologizing for ignoring her and saying that a "stubborn friend" had made him realize his mistake.
Eliza knew exactly
who did it.
She texted Darcy:
Meet me in the
debate room. Now.

The New Algorithm
She found him packing up his debate notes.
"Why did you help me?" she asked softly. "You had every reason to let everyone laugh at me."
Darcy turned around, looking down at his shoes. "Because you were right about me, Eliza. I was arrogant. I acted like I was better than everyone else because I was afraid of people getting close to me. I didn't fix this for my reputation. I did it because I want you to keep being the brave girl who fights for what is right."

Eliza looked at him. The cold, rich boy was gone. There was only a boy waiting to see if she could ever forgive him. She smiled, her anger completely melting away.
"Well," Eliza said, walking closer. "I guess I need to write a new article for The Buzz."
Darcy finally smiled. "A bad one?"
"No," Eliza laughed. "I think I can find something nice to say about the debate captain."

What happens when first impressions go viral?
Eliza Bennet never expected to fall for the one person she couldn't stand. William Darcy seemed cold, arrogant, and completely out of touch—until the truth behind the rumors began to unfold.
Set in a modern high school filled with social media, gossip, and unexpected second chances, this fresh retelling of Pride and Prejudice proves that love begins when we look beyond our pride and our prejudice.
