I am Mrs Mythology!

In ancient times, the twelve gods lived on a mountain called mount Olympus.

At the same time, giants also lived.

One of the twelve gods was Poseidon, who lived in the sea and protected it.

However, he had an enemy, the giant Polybotes.

The giant wanted to rule the sea. So one day, the giant Polybotes and the god Poseidon fought in the sea.

The god Poseidon became very angry and broke off a piece of the island of Kos and threw it at the giant.

Since then, the giant Polybotes has lived beneath the sea, buried under the rock.

Many years later, an island called Nisyros was formed above the giant.

Since then, whenever the giant wakes up, the island trembles with fear for a little while...

Kindergarten of Nisyros

Hi! I'm the crater Stefanos!

I live in Nisyros, an island in the Aegean Sea. The entire island is a volcano.

I' m bigger in land than my brothers, the other craters!

and..the most famous!!

Around me you will see red and yellow colour. The red colour is caused from rust and the yellow from sulfur!

And yes...i smell a little strange! That's because of the sulfur!

But around me you will also see green colour, from the low vegetation. You can also see...

...grey, like clouds ready to rain, because of the stones and soil.

If you visit the craters, you will feel the breath of Polivotis. But be carefull, don' t come too close, because hot steam comes out of the holes in the ground!

Do you see the sticks next to me?They didn't imprison me!

People placed them because the soil here is very hot. Like a huge pot of earth!

And let me tell you a secret;  below the island of Nisyros the giant Polivotis is still sleeping!

However, if the giant wakes up, the earth will begin... to tremble!!!

That's when everyone starts to get afraid of me!!!

I may explode and bring out hot lava that will burn everything in each path!

But thanks to me the soil becomes fertile, there are hot springs, strange stones and...

...i make the island unique! I'm famous all over the world and many people come to see me!

I get really happy when children come to see me...their laughter and foot steps make me... tickle!!

Nisyros was recognised as a geopark and now it also belongs to the grate global family of Unesco!

The earth speaks...and Nisyros is magical!
