Sofia loved her school in East Los Angeles.

She loved her friends, her teachers, and painting murals after class.

One morning.

Sofia noticed something was different.

Many older students were leaving school and walking down the street together.

Sofia asked her brother,

"Where are you going, Why aren't you staying in?"

Her brother explained,

"We're walking out because we want better schools.

We deserve books,

classes in Spanish and English, and teachers who believe in us."
