The Girl and the Shadow
Penny Cooper was a very anxious twelve- year- old, she liked hot summer days, the cool, beach air, and boba drinks with her friends. But lately, she hasn't seen any of her friends. Even Gwen, who was usually glued to her side, hadn't been seen in a while.
After two days passed, Penny was officially crazy, she had written five letters to Gwen in the span of an hour. One warm evening, Penny was walking down the stairs to grab a glass of water before bed when she felt someone lingering behind her. Penny whipped around, but no one was there. Penny decided it was her recent visions due to losing sleep and brushed off the eerie feeling of being watched as her paranoia.
Penny had already woken up from her nightmare by the time she heard a knock on the door; she rushed to get out of her pajamas and brush her teeth, all the while whoever was ringing the bell grew more impatient. Penny opened the door and found herself looking at her older brother, Daniel.
Penny hadn't seen him in seven years, she definitely wasn't expecting such a welcome guest. Although she was glad it didn't turn out to be a serial killer or something of the like.
" Hey. Haven't seen you in a while, sis." Daniel stated as he seated himself near the TV. " That's all? Well, hey too, I guess. . ." Penny sighed, she had hoped for a more enthusiastic reunion.
By the time her parents arrived back home, Penny had grown snappish and impatient.
" Huh? Danny? Why wouldn't you message me of your arrival?" Penny's father, George, said as soon as he saw Daniel lounging about in the living room.

It had been a long, boring day and Penny was ready for bed. Penny laid her head on her pillow and began to drift off into the world of her dreams where penguins had fur instead of feathers when she heard the clatter of dishes.
Penny rushed down stairs to find her brother scavenging through the cupboards. Daniel saw her and stared at her, pink flushing into his cheeks. Penny noticed a stack of snacks in his
Hands. Daniel scurried away to his basement room and disappeared into the darkness.
The next day, Penny didn't see Daniel around, she went into the basement and saw dirty fingerprints leading out the window. Penny followed them to the beach, where the oily prints led into the ocean waves and faded into the sea line.
Penny worried and searched everywhere, but she never found him. The posters of Daniel's face just stayed there on those street lights and even through rain and sun, the papers kept clinging to the metal, as if hoping that someday, Daniel would return. . .
Claw Marks
Beatrice McKoven was a young girl living in the 1920's, completely unaware of her royal blood and the monster that hunted it.
Beatrice was walking outside her property one day when she saw an old adventurer laying on the grass, after stitching up his wound and setting him down somewhere comfortable, Beatrice slipped out the paper in his pocket, and looked at what it said, " ' Be wary of the streets, forests, and lakes at night. There is a monster said to steal the blood of those who bathe in money.'" Beatrice brushed it off; it's not like she was rich. Little did McKoven know, she, even though she lacked the richness described in the paper, would still be targeted by the monster just as much as any nobleman.
Beatrice stood in her entryway, prepared to face punishment for being out so late, but when she opened the entrance, she saw only her dark house. Apparently mom and dad weren't home yet.
Beatrice treated herself to some caramels while she read the newspaper, then a scraping came from the door, Beatrice was very pleased by learning about other people's personal lives, she also didn't scare easily. In fact, I think it would be a stretch to say Beatrice had any fears at all.
Beatrice walked up to the door and swung it open. Nothing was there. She checked around the porch and just as she was about to give up, Beatrice saw claw Marks at the bottom of the door. " Claw Marks? How strange. . ." Beatrice reflected as she finished the rest of the caramel.
Beatrice stayed up the whole night, waiting for her parents to arrive. But they never did, she just kept waiting, and waiting. . . Beatrice snapped awake, she was in a tired stupor, walking numbly around the house.
It was only when she fully opened her eyes that she realized there were claw Marks all over her house, leading up to her room. Though there were no Marks on her bedroom door.
That night, Beatrice woke up to a wetness that she quickly realized was her blood.
Beatrice didn't see anything before black coated her vision.
