Detective Ava sat at her desk enjoying a berry smoothie after a busy morning. Chief Chloe slammed her coffee mug down with a loud bang! "Smoothie break is over, Agent Ava! We have a Code Red at the bakery!" Chief Chloe shouted. Ava quickly put down her drink, grabbed her trench coat, and picked up her magnifying glass. She and her sidekick, Oliver, rushed out the door and ran down Main Street. They headed straight toward the delicious smell of warm French pastries coming from the bakery. Inside , Harper and Ethan were pacing near the counter in tears. "Agent Ava, your prized detective notebook is GONE!" Harper gasped. Ethan added, "A mysterious code was left on the board!" Ava smiled andsaid, "Stay calm, everyone; let's check the evidence!"

CHAPTER 2:THE PATTERN AT THE CRIME SCENE

Ava marched to the back room where the locker stood hidden behind a pastry display. She reached out and carefully tapped in the combination.  The heavy metal door swung wide open. To everyone's shock, the notebook was not inside the locker! Instead, a glowing keypad blinked in the dark, showing a second math challenge. Oliver gasped, "A double-layered lock! Chief Chloe made this puzzle tough!" The glowing numbers read:  Ava smiled confidently and said, "No problem, this sequence triples too! To unlock the vault, we multiply fifty-four by three to get one hundred sixty-two!" She carefully tapped the new digits into the keypad.
