Chapter 1: Jade

It was a tranquil summer morning. Jade sat in her bed while using her Ipad when her mother came in. "Hello, dear. Really? You are using your Ipad first thing in the moring? You are going to get dark circles around your eyes," her mother said, softly but firmly. Jade slowly turned her head with her green eyes shining, her braids slightly on her face. She flicked her pearl white braids back and away from her face. "I'll turn it off, mom" Jade said in her most polite tone. "Very well, dear. Please do come outside, Grandfather is waiting," her mother replied in her sweet, angel-like voice. And with that she left.
Jade slowly put her ipad down and looked in the mirror. Her short , light emerald, crossed stiched dress with pearls was shining in the sunlight. Everyone thought it looked beautiful on her but Jade didn't think so. "I look like a fancy frog!" she thought. She was quite conscious about her looks. "Doesn't matter, there's no time to change now, grandpa is waiting," she muttered. With that she went outside, eager to see her grandfather(even if she still thinks she looks like a fancy frog).

Grandfather Winston was waiting. Many old people like to read the news and Grandpa Winston was one of them, but most times he liked to get lost in his thoughts.This was one of those times.The sunlight was reflecting in his glasses and grandpa was staring out the window, looking at the oversized forest that lay near them. Now mind you, grandfather is a quite a peaceful and serene person and sometimes he likes to say his thoughts out loud. "My, what I would give for being a kid again, even if it is just one day," he groaned and turned away from the window and to Jade who was entering. "Hello Jade, your mother told me that you were using your ipad first thing in the moring! You shouldn't have to use your ipad all the time! You're a kid, for Pete's sake! You should go camping or something!" Grandpa lectured.

"Grandpa, I only use my ipad because I'm bored and especially bored of playing by myself, and camping is only fun when there is someone to come with," Jade said in her most innocent voice to avoid the fact that she was using her ipad before the sun rose and broke the rules.

Grandpa was deep in his thoughts. After a few moments he looked up at Jade again. "Very well, we both will go camping later today. It will be a no digital day. Deal?" He asked. Jade nodded, then they confirmed their plans with mother. "Fine, just don't drag me along!" Linda (Jade's mother) said.

"Why not? You've got two legs and two hands and are perfectly able to." Grandpa shot back. Soon, a battle of words started between them but shortly after mother lost the battle and was forced to come along. "It will make us more healthy," Grandpa told everyone. "Now, I just have to get Rover! Come here boy!" Short after, Rover came running with his grey coat shining in the sunlight and his scruffy face smiling. "Hey boy! There's a good Eskimo dog!" Grandpa said while scratching him under his neck.

After a while of packing and re-packing (mainly because of Linda insisting that they didn't pack properly) they went to the lush and green forest that lied in front of them.

Chapter 2

Secrets behind a huckleberry bush?

After a long hike, they decided to stop and make camp next to some huckleberry bushes, because Linda heart rate went extremely high after climbing uphill. "Mother are you feeling better? Let me go get some huckleberries, maybe you will like that," Jade offered and mother nodded. She was picking the best huckleberries only. There was a small gap in the bush which Jade was picking in. She bent down to the gap to see if there were berries on the other side. Instead, she saw a face with dark blue eyes like a night sky, she rubbed her eyes and looked again but this time the eyes were gone. "How strange! I must tell grandpa!" She exclaimed. First, she gave the big, juicy and dark purple huckleberries to her mother and then ran off to grandpa who had just finished setting up the camp fire and now was moving heavy logs. Jade stopped running and was shocked. "Grandpa, no! You shouldn't be moving those logs! You'll hurt yourself! Here let me." She shouted and picked up a log. "Hoho! Jade I might be old but I am certainly not weak...but... you're right, I should take care of myself... Won't you be a dear and finsh up? I just might take a break." Grandpa told her, and with a sigh he went back to camp after putting down the log. Jade nodded and continued to finish up.

When she was done, she noticed the same eyes with a pointy nose peeking out from a tree. "I know you are here! I have great eyesight and if you try to run then you should know that I can run super fast!" She yelled tauntingly. "Well, I hope. I'm not that out of running practice." She thought.just then, she heard a sudden rustle. "We'll see about that!Catch me if you can!" A voice yelled and the person started running. Jade grinned haughtily and started chasing him as fast as she can. After a while of running, he thought he lost her and went behind some oak trees. "Phew! That was close! That silly kid! She'll will never catch up!" He said with a laugh. "Well then, you should really rethink that! And mind you, you are also a kid!" Jade appeared from some trees in front of him. The boy stood , shocked. "But... how did you catch up?" he said surprised and then quickly tried to act cool ."I mean.. uh.. who are you? "

"I am Jade, a girl who lives outside of the forest and who is faster than you!" He rolled his eyes, "Well, nice to meet you but I have to go now!" He said while walking away. "Hey! Where are you going?" Jade asked while catching up to him. "You didn't even tell me your name!"

"My name is Nakoa. There, happy?" He replied in a rather rude voice. But Jade still had questions that need answers.
