“Luna loved stories. At home, her mamá read books with her in Spanish. At school, Luna loved reading books in English. She enjoyed both languages, but sometimes she wondered if she was supposed to choose just one.”

“Every morning, Luna's mamá greeted her in English, and Luna answered in Spanish. Luna liked knowing that the same warm greeting could sound different in two languages. To Luna, both sounded like home.”

“One Monday morning, Ms. Rivera announced a new project. Everyone would create a story about something important to them. Luna already knew what she wanted to write about, but she wasn't sure if she was brave enough to share it.”

“That afternoon, Luna opened her notebook and wrote, ‘My Two Languages.’ Then she stopped. Luna wondered if everyone would think Spanish didn't belong in her story. She erased the words and closed her notebook.”
